Yes, but IMHO this particular Pope is the product of coordinated efforts by the global left to neutralize the anti-Marxist role played by the papacy, and JPII in particular, in bringing an end to the USSR. When the USSR fell, and so many thought this was the beginning of the end for Marxism / Communism in the world, the global left went into battle mode.
They analyzed all the reasons the US and the West prevailed, and among them was religious faith and belief in the sanctity of individual human life as God's creation. They decided one way to counter this was to try to promote the ascendency of clerics with Marxist / Communist sympathies and anti-West / anti-US sentiments into positions of influence in the Church leadership.
Another reason the US and the West prevailed was the economic strength of the US, a product of Capitalism. So the global left decided to use Capitalism as a tool (e.g. China's 'state-sponsored Capitalism' competing in the world market) in order to neutralize the US and the West's economic advantages over Marxism / Communism. The political leadership of the West incorrectly thought that the controlled tolerance of nascent Capitalism and private ownership in Communist nations (most notably China) would lead to a further deterioration of Communist totalitarian power. Instead, it gave these Marxist / Communist nations greater economic power with which to push forward their agenda and tighten their totalitarian grip.
Then follow them to their destination cities and see the filth and destruction they wreak on them.
Then have a look at the rapes, drug and child and female trafficking and drunk driving vehicular homicides that they do as illegals on innocent Americans, Italians, and other Europeans where they end up.
And remember, this is all with his organized support and repeated encouragement.
