“ That’s an act of war.”
—————-
You and your neighbor don’t get along very well at all. There have been several incidents where your neighbor tried to burn down your house, so far unsuccessfully. One day you wake up, and your house is on fire again, courtesy of your unfriendly neighbor. The guy on the other side of your neighbor is seen bringing gasoline cans to your neighbor. How do you view the guy bringing gasoline to your neighbor, that your neighbor is turning around and dumping on your house, so as to increase the probability that your house will burn down to the ground?

The act of war also includes arming your enemy, even if you don’t have a direct grievance against the guy who is doing that arming. I am not in favor of endless, expanding, war - but your view is incredibly simplistic.

There is a very good reason why the Lusitania was sunk. The Germans knew about it in advance. They had even warned us in advertisements taken out in major newspapers not to do this, and simultaneously warned innocents not to board the ship on that trip. Despite that, we sent a cruise liner, loaded with innocent civilians and full of arms and ammunition to England, so they decided to take off the gloves. The blame for those civilian deaths was on the United States, because we purposely put civilians at risk in committing an active war against Germany, while it was fighting a world war against England. Similarly, Israel has warned Syria - repeatedly and publicly - not to transfer Iranian weapons to Israel’s direct enemies. Syria apparently doesn’t care about damages to either its infrastructure or its people (because this is very far from the first time that Israel has bombed these airport for the exact same reason), and Iran certainly doesn’t care. What result would any rational person expect in the circumstances?

And in the midst of all this, about a thousand US military are busy guarding — oops, defending — Kurdish-related oil fields in Syria — and shooting down a Turkish drone most recently. Oddly, there is no nation named Kurdistan with which to have alliances. If Syria or Turkey or both enter the war on the side of Hamas and against Israel (possible), what will these US military personnel do?

What’s a Leppo

A place in Syria where they grow the best peppers. Great on everything that needs a little 'pop'. ;-)

So were the missiles that flew yesterday from Syria into the North, unless it was Hizbollah doing a false flag in order to widen the war. If so, they just did. It’s on now.

War was declared against Syria by Israel? I missed that.
Getting excited for WWIII are you?

Great mind reader you are. Able to read people’s mind from a two line post. Amazing.

As for my point -

JERUSALEM, Oct 10 (Reuters) - Israeli troops fired artillery and mortar shells toward Syria on Tuesday after a number of shells launched from its northern neighbour landed in open areas on Israeli territory, Israel’s military said.

Israel has declared war against Hamas, but if a nation decides enter the fight then they become part of that war so in this case Syria declared war against Israel.

My point is that Israel has tried to contain the conflict to Gaza but if other nations get involved (like firing rockets and artillery into Israel) there will be a response. A warning shot if you will.

I doubt any of the nations surrounding Israel want WWIII but they will push back a little to see how Israel will respond. It seems Syria did not take the hint so Israel sent a louder message.

Feel better now.

And for further clarification read my tag line - these are opinion and contrary to mind readers on FR we are still allowed to have them.

You’re stating Syrian troops fired into Israel?
That’s BS and you know it.
This is how a world war starts.

“The events are nothing new”

Absolutely correct. Iran has been arming terrorists through Damascus for years. The strikes are precision, targeting only arms.

And thus ended any future political ambitions for Gary Johnson. Has he ever been heard from since?

No they were warned not to bring in munitions for Hamas but they did it anyway. Those planes were targeted and destroyed. You know what the Syrians are going to do about it? Nothing.

You’ll likely see some black dots out in the desert before this is over and that will be downed Iranian jets.

While it may be true that Syrian troops themselves did not fire upon Israel (and I would venture to say that nobody participating in this thread knows for certain whether or not that is true), they certainly didn’t do much to stop it.

More on point with the subject of this particular thread, Syria’s government most certainly controls the airports at Damascus and Aleppo. These airports have long been used to transship Iranian weapons to Hamas and Hezbollah. We know that Israel is at war against Hamas because of what happened on Saturday. Hezbollah has been firing rockets, guided missiles, and mortars into northern Israel since no later than Sunday - and I know that for an absolute fact, because one of my nephews lives about a mile from the Lebanese border, and he has spent considerable time (along with all of his fellow residents in their apartment complex) in a bomb shelter because Hezbollah is bombing the ever-living crap out of northern Israel. They have been bombing so much, that Israel is evacuating civilians from the north as quickly as possible, because they know that there’s going to be a second front there very quickly, and they don’t want civilians to be in the way and victimized the way they were on Saturday in the south.

So if the Syrian government is purposely ( and once again, after years of doing so) allowing more Iranian arms to go to these two terrorist groups, which they turn around and fire on Israeli territory and Israeli civilians, what result do you expect? What would you do in those circumstances, send them a note, telling them to stop, and that if they don’t stop, you’ll send another nasty note? (Hat tip to Monty Python).

“That thought scares me silly. I remember the anti-war crowd during the Vietnam “Conflict”. I belittled them...called them cowards. - I’m on their side now”.

I’m with ya. After someone sees war, they are not all that enthused about seeing it again. If you have to go to war, then you have to go to war, but it is best to avoid it, if at all possible.

Having someone fire a few mortar rounds into the Golan as a pretext for a ‘retaliatory’ bombing of civilian infrastructure 100s of klms away in Damascus is a well known and often used Israeli tactic...as is launching those strikes from the relative safety of Lebanese airspace.

Syria and Iran are the two main sponsors of Hezbollah, and both wield significant influence. Hezbollah has already threatened to enter the conflict. A pre-emptive strike by Israel at this point is fair game. Hezbollah has started shelling Northern Israel already.

I’m not sure why you’re bringing up U.S. troops. There’s no mention of U.S. troops in the article. This was a strike carried out by Israel on Damascus airport. The U.S. was not involved.
