Does the FBI have enough self-awareness of its unpopularity among the American people to use it against their foes? In the old days, J. Edgar Hoover would leak (or state publicly) someone’s communist affiliations to destroy them. Would the FBI now leak real or fake association with the FBI itself to damage someone’s reputation?
If the government was concerned they could just stop importing workers from China and India to flood the American tech sector and get student visas . Not sure why they need an informant

In essence there is nothing to see here, as why Thiel may have cooperated with the FBI should be considered normal for his professional experience an what the FBI wanted his cooperation with.
