I wonder if something has changed in the growing of peanuts from when peanut allergies were unheard of. There’s been so much modification of plants to make them more drought resistant, insect resistant, etc.

Wheat, for example, was once called “the staff of life” and must have been very nutritious. Now it has ten times the yield per acre since before major modifications but has lost much of its nutritional value.

PB, honey & mayo on my PB sandwich.

I am a pb purist. Don't taint it with jelly, but that might be interesting....

I don't remember people having a lot of food allergies in school.

I remember getting peanut butter sandwiches in grade school lunches. Was that just a secret Darwinian effort to kill off those suffering from the allergy? I don’t remember a single person suffering from it when I was a kid.

Same here. I think it's vaccines, and possibly other environmental factors.

Anything without data is speculation.

Here’s my speculation!

One thing that is very different now is obesity levels.
We know obesity effects one’s health in a myriad of different ways particularly for adults. In children it doesn’t seem to be talked about as much. Look at the sugar consumption & junk food consumption now as opposed to then! Go try to take candy\soft drink\junk food machines out of schools, you’ll be more successful taking books out!

If you’re the odd-man-out, it’s up to you to make the accommodation. It’s not you’re place to hinder everyone else because you have an issue.

Did mom check on this when she made reservations?

Also, did mom bring an N-95 mask for the boy? Or ask the stew for one?

I can appreciate people with special needs...however some of this "accomodation" is way, way over the top....

I see people laughing, playing, talking, eating all the while they have their Pet animal near them for anxiety etc.....

when does their right to avoid charges for kenneling beat my right to breathe animal free air?...even in restaurants....

The one time I flew during the pandemic I had a two pound bag of Costco salted peanuts and ate them VERY SLOWLY during the entire flight.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few years back, I wanted to see a MLB game that was blocked in my area, not having a radio in my house at the time, I grabbed a big bag of peanuts and went to my car to listen to the game on the car radio. I sat through the whole game eating peanuts with nothing too drink.
I got hiccups. They stopped 96 hours later. Through eating, sleeping, pooping. everything. I tried every home remedy and nothing helped, I thought I was gonna go insane. Then it just stopped. I’ve eaten peanuts since that occasion.. but in moderation and with something to drink.
I am allergic to penicillin. At least I was. The last and only time I was given penicillin I was 6 years old, puffed up like a balloon and went into anaphylactic shock. In the 60 years since then I have had several doctors tell me that many people who have an allergic reaction to penicillin grow out of it, but I never felt the need to test the theory since other antibiotics worked fine for me.
I suspect that it is also the case with peanut allergies. One bad allergic reaction as a kid and no pressing need to ever try peanuts again.
