“I stopped at the “to Not Pay” for one of my bugaboos.”

I’m not sure that’s always incorrect.

For instance, someone says, “I’m worried that I didn’t pay that person.” You could respond, “It’s ok to not pay them.” That’s different from saying “it’s not ok to pay them.”

It would be...it’s ok NOT to pay that person.

In reality, though, that could be bad advice.

Your second choice is correct

“These writers are basically copy machines.”

Except that generative AI comes up with high-quality (world-class authorship) novel and unique material on a routine basis.

I’m not sure. Wish one of us could think of a grammar rule that applies. I can’t.

“generative AI” - what’s that?

“World-class authorship” - who determines that?

“unique meterial” - it’s easy for a computer to produce different combinations and permutations of words, and some people declare them unique.

As I say, words are used by people to communicate their thoughts. If a person doesn’t produce the words, well, if you’re interested in the thoughts of a computer, fine.

Here’s the grammar rule:

An infinitive is the word “to” followed by a “verb”...
to say
to walk
to respond, etc.

The rule is: you shouldn’t “split” an infinitive. The word NOT, often used in sentences, should not be between “to” and “say”

I admit it has been years since I was in school, and the rule may have changed, other rules have changed. If it has and you find out about it, would you please let me know.
I am NOT being sarcastic when I ask you to do that. I am serious.
