America is now an idiocracy. Both political parties are worthless and will eventually drag the USA to complete ruin. The Founding Fathers expected this eventually and truly the only answer is reset per the Declaration of Independence and Constitution which means nothing to Fedgov and oblivious to most Americans.
The House can’t do anything about the GOP primaries.
No one in the GOP in the House would have the cajones to do that. Idle threat.
I’m not sure this is fully correct. Isn’t this the process?
(1) Slates of Electoral Votes are introduced to the joint session on January 6th by State slate.
(2) If at least 1 member of both Houses has signed a letter challenging the results of the particular State.
(3) Each House meets separately for up to 2 hours to vote on whether to accept or reject the submitted slate of the State. If both Houses vote to reject then the slate is rejected and not counted in the final result.
(4) If nobody gets 270 for President then the House deliberates on the top 3 where each State gets one vote for their delegation in the House. If nobody gets 270 for Vice President then the Senate deliverates on the top 2 where each Senator gets one vote.
(5) If the deliberations process takes more time than January 20th noon then the presidential succession laws determine who serves as acting President and/or acting VP until the house(s) of Congress can finish deliberations. The current terms of Biden/Harris end regardless on January 20th noon.
Now suppose that #5 happens then the Speaker of the House would become Acting President. However, the odds of this are slim & even then the Senate could be motivated to break deadlock and finally select a new Vice President for the rest of the 2025-2029 term. I think Harris would be the Senate tiebreaker before Jan 20th but not afterwards. But lets suppose that the Senate does break their deadlock on January 21st then the Speaker’s 1 day Presidency would end & the House would still be choosing from the top 3 vote getters. If they ever break deadlock then the top vote getter would becomer President. I also think that the top 3 gets pared down to top 2 quickly in the House. I don’t remember all the details. I hope the rules are airtight so the result will be respected.
The bottom line is that an important part of determining the Presidency (and so much more) depends on getting a good Congress. I have no real concrete idea what a good Congress looks like because I was born in the 1970s and thus I’ve grown up under dysfunctional Congresses. But maybe some older people might remember experiencing a good Congress.
Just to be clear - once Congress voted on January 7, 2021 I was fully supportive that the decision was 100% legitimate. I know many people didn’t like the result. But it was legit.
