I don't either and I am willing to learn. I was on a flight that was delayed for over a hour because an overhead light was burned out and had to be replaced before the aircraft was deemed flight worthy. The incidence airplane in question had 3 pressurization faults and was allowed to continue to fly. Something is wrong with this picture.
You recall correctly. Baggage Handlers responsible for securing that door had been warning about the issue because it had made the doors vary finicky to lock properly. Can kept getting kicked down the road, and then — OOPS!
Even afterward it wasn’t 100%
I had a manager in the 2000’s who was at home and heard a loud THUMP in his backyard about 10:30. Investigating, he found a FedEx cargo door in his garden.
“There are no standards of excellence...”
Because there are no standards. standards are “racist” doncha know?
My daughter and friend were flying back to Spokane from Australia the night that happened. I was up all night worrying that they might be on a 737 Max 9, but fortunately they were not. I can only imagine how many other people worried about their loved ones too.
I thought so...
Generally, any sane engineer would recommend that any door open in the direction of greater pressure to ensure its sealed when closed... (IE Submarine hatch open outward (water pressure holding it shut when submerged). jet open inward, internal pressure holding it shut.
The 747 They built this door the way they did to allow larger payloads, not not have to worry about keeping the path to the door free so it could close after being loaded allowing for more cargo... downside, door now swings outward... so if the latching mech failed, explosive decompression.
9/11 I was in California, I had been working late the night before, so by the time I woke up, it was effectively over...
My mother was flying back to Pittsburgh from a vacation... all I knew for a brief period of time was a plane was down in shanksville... fortunately my mother was not on that flight.
My wife had a cousin who lived and worked in Manhattan, and was often in and around the towers... Fortunately he also was okay.
Who wasn’t? My boss at the time’s cousin. He had decided working as a long shoreman was too dangerous, and had taken a safe office job that was in the Trade Centers recently. He didn’t make it out.
Fundamentalist Islam, is evil, period. Anyone who ever tells you otherwise is a fool or a liar or both.
OMG, I’ve been all over the world, never plan to fly again anyway but this seals the deal.
