Antivirals almost have to be designed for each virus. They aren't like antibiotics which work against a broad spectrum of bacteria. Furthermore, we do not have antivirals against the viruses that are most like SARS-CoV-2, which would be the coronaviruses that cause the common cold.
When the Covid pandemic started, we literally had no idea what the best treatments would be. And even now, with over three years of studies guiding us, it is still 1% fatal.
Physical methods to slow/halt the spread of a respiratory pathogen are a bit different than treatment. They work because they physically block a physical object. Since treatments are based on the biology of the organisms involved, they are a bit more complicated and there is no "one size fits all."
So if the public safety officials tell you to evacuate a town that is about to be hit by a category five hurricane, you will do the opposite and stay there. You have the right to do that, of course. Unfortunately, the taxpayers end up paying for your rescue.

I really don't know what they do. They may get a few seconds of notoriety when interviewed for TV. Maybe slightly longer for radio and print interviews.

Yep. If 6 ft distancing was the solution, why not set up the OUTDOOR baseball stadiums ticket systems to sell “pods” of tickets for the average sized family/group to attend spaced out?

In CT our Gov. actually let state parks open, but plated COVID warning signs everywhere. One local park has a observation tower, probably 20 x 20 that they tired to limit to like 4 people.
One day before sunset, I decided to go visit. They had tried to limit people by closing off part of the parking lot, but everyone had just parked on the street, etc. A EnCon AKA fish/wildlife/parks Police truck drove by the officer had a big grin on his face and drive by. In my part of the state it was obvious they were ignoring things like this.
I geet to the tower and some masked and gloved Karen is waling down, talking to her masked friend, saying how unsafe it is. I get to the top and probably 10-12 people are up their, the signs ripped down, just enjoying the sunset, not a mask to be seen.
Fauci won’t be any closer to 6’ when he’s underground than he has been above-ground.

As I type this, I am in the eye doctor’s exam chair waiting for the doc. Santa Clara County (Cali) restarted the mask nonsense for medical facilities a week ago! There is about 99% compliance here — guess who is resisting?
I’ve had two Karens say “wear your mask” but I ignored them. Californians are such dutiful sheep.
