Tesla recommend preconditioning the battery which is the same as heating the battery. Heat means electrical energy.

Sounds like a Help Desk response to the problem: "My email isn't working."

Help Desk response: "Send me an email with the details."

Time to build “warming shacks” till the tow truck arrives.

Or “have you turned the computer off and back on?”

An essential piece of a car like a battery should or must be able to operate in extreme temperatures where a standard ICE motor is expected to operate.

It is a duh! moment.

Liberals virtue signaling with oversize electric golf carts should suffer.

“EVs have a long way to go.”

Not in this weather. They can’t.

The pure brilliance of buying these in cold country,
these people have no brain cells.

Depends on what energy source. I wonder how well hydrogen fuel cells do in cold weather. Or maybe some other chemistry.

My LiPO battery in my truck camper has heaters in between the cells. It heats battery with solar, does not use battery voltage.
It also has a BMS that won’t let battery charge below 32. Has high temp protection also. It will discharge down to -7 degrees.
The battery is 100 ah and weighs 1/3 what an AGM battery.
My camper is in a 1 ton single wheel diesel truck. I also have a DC to DC charger for backup.
Lithium batteries are fantastic, just not to power the vehicle.
Been in SW Colorado climbing for the past 2 weeks. Not a problem with it. It is very cold here above 9000 ft.

Maybe EV owners will support global warming?

They are going to have to erect an astrodome that is heated to 75 degrees all winter. The Tesla chargers will be inside the dome.

Either that, or we need more global warming. For the EVs.

Still, it is inefficient. There has to be a chemistry that will operate well below 40F and well above 120F.

Maybe sacrifices such as capacity or charge time. But a vehicle must operate over these extremes.

I have zero (or less) sympathy for the stranded EV drivers. The information regarding the EV batteries and the effects cold weather has on their ability to take or hold a charge has been available for some time.

The opportunity to signal their virtue and adherence to their climate change religion caused them to abandon all common sense and sink money into something that is nothing more than an expensive paper weight during extreme weather. And, since the climate zealots inform us we can expect more and more extreme weather their decision to purchase the paperweight is even more evidence of the left’s lack of critical-thinking skills.
