The short answer: “Yes, she is that stupid.”

Yep. They ALWAYS think increasing tax rates 10% will generate 10% more income. The simple truth is that, if your tax rate is 0%, you get zero taxes collected. Conversely, if your tax rate is 100%, you also get zero taxes collected because everybody moved away.

The confusion about incentives is that they wonder why they can’t make the incentives equal to the price of the car.

Eliminate EV’s tax subsidies breaks and corporate internal subsidization, and EV prices will be even higher.

FYI folks hybrid sales have grown sharply in 2023. They are the clear choice instead of fully electric.

The old saying was that they are a car with a small engine that hauls a battery around remains true, but for the 20 years or so that Toyota has been perfecting the Prius, it has always gotten 50-60 mpg with no concerns about range.

It is a commuter car. Drive 10 miles to work, it will be on battery. Pop onto the highway for a 20 mile drive, the ICE motor will automatically turn on and recharge the battery while you are driving to wherever.

What the wackos can’t stand is that it needs gasoline. It doesn’t occur to them it is much less gasoline and solves the range problem.

Sales jumped 76% to 800K last year.

The hybrid concept is fantastic. It lets the battery do what it does well and lets the ICE do what it does well. It plays to the strengths of both technologies. Toyota has been sort of the wise owl, sitting slightly removed but making all kinds of sense.

I wouldn’t have an EV if it were free. Too much trouble with short range, charging times and battery worries. Dangerous to park in the garage.

Spot on! Exactly my thinking, too.

Screw the hybrid concept unless you lease or know what the repair numbers are likely to be when the car ages..

Well, when the F150 is the most popular vehicle, hauling things is clearly important. Not a hybrid thing.

The reason the hybrid works is people can commute to work and then when the weekend arrives or summer vacation, they don’t have to go buy a second car for long trips.

From repairpal.com, and I think this is the first 10 yrs of use.

Average Corolla repairs/yr $362.

Prius $408

Camry $388

F150 $775

Ford Fusion $581

Honda Accord $400

Nissan Altima $483

Prius 5 year depreciation 18%
Camry 5 year depreciation 24%
F-150 5 year depreciation 24%
Corolla 5 year depreciation 21%
Ford Focus 5 year depreciation 33%

It’s a Toyota. It is a bit unfair comparing it trash US cars, so the comparison would be vs other Toyotas. It’s pricier to repair, but only $50/yr. Depreciates slower.

There are other hybrids out there, but Prius has the decades of polish.

I’d like to see what the trend line for F150 hybrid sales looks like. Seems like the hybrid concept could work well for hauling stuff. It could give you a nice burst of torque when you need it, to get the load moving.

If the battery is depleted. No go..
