My exact thoughts. There may be underlining facts that we are not aware of

A friend of mine shot 5 dogs that were killing his sheep. In Texas this is not a problem. He screwed up when he hung them up on fence line running down a county road.

They got him for animal abuse. Go figure. But then he was fined $100/dog and community service.

Utterly absurd. The average murderer only serves 7 years, the mostly peaceful arsonists of ANTIFA and BLM don’t even get prosecuted, and the guy gets 25 for hitting an animal. In NYC you don’t even get put in jail for assaulting a cop Eighth amendment says something about prohibiting cruel and unusual punishments.

Had he beaten a white nationalist, whatever that is, he would have been taken out for a prime rib dinner.

The next case was probably an abortionist that murdered a full term baby and got probation for improper disposal of human remains.

Reminds me of the case out of Richardson a few years ago. Guy beat his wife (or girlfriend, don’t remember that detail) and her mother. And killed the cat.

Got 5 years in prison for killing the cat.

Our culture is upside down.

Gen chapter 1, God gave man dominion (rule) over animals and in chapter 9, just after the flood, God re-affirms man’s rule over animals but says when man sheds blood of another man but by man his blood shall be shed.

The problem is you are conflating sentences and time served. Seven years is (or was, haven't kept up with it in a few decades) was the minimum for a life sentence. So the press can get a headline 'killer sentenced to life for murder', but the parole board determines the amount of time served.

And even there, your statement needs some qualifications. The guys getting out after 7 years generally had clean records before going in (and are generally well behaved in prison), and killed a wife or girlfriend who knew how to push their buttons. Someone with priors or with a cold blooded plot or excessive brutality was going to do more.

I think it's OCGA 42-9-45. And they used to have paper worksheets that defense lawyers could go through with their clients when discussing plea deals. It's probably all computerized these days.

Found this online - can't vouch for its accuracy

Nope you completely missed my point. Yes I said time served. On a 25 year sentence parole eligibility may be as early as 1/3 time served but is more common at 1/2 time served. That at best would be 8 years 4 months for beating a dog vs 7 years for killing someone. Still an absurd, cruel and unusual punishment for beating a dog.

Yes, I also noticed that “the Judge convicted him”. That is not the way a trail works in Texas or any place else to my knowledge.

Yet you won’t spend a day in jail for beating a random old lady in NYC?

“He should have beat NY Cops instead.”

Now that is Class A snark! +10 for you.

Way, way back when Donald Trump was our president.
Seems like jurassic times.<

The incident happened Feb. 2019 was enough information. BLAME TRUMP!

You are the one affixing ‘blame’, not me.
I am only saying that is when it happened, but you’ll believe what you chose to, as is your right.

Many years ago I read an article regarding how child abuse laws came about. It said that a century or more ago, there were no laws against abusing your children. I believe it was a doctor or maybe a physician that was so appalled at the treatment of mentally ill child by her parents that he repeatedly went to authorities to have something done. Authorities said their was nothing to be done because no laws prevented a parent disciplining their child as they saw fit.

Eventually, the concerned citizen found a law on the books regarding abusing livestock. He then used that law and convinced the court that the child was the same as livestock and was able to have the child taken away and given to a caring family and the parents prosecuted for their abuse. All by using animal abuse laws. It was years later that laws were passed regarding abuse of children.

It seems we have returned to a time that the abuse of animal can get you more punishment than the abuse of a child.

Yes, I know what you’re only saying.

The headline or story did not mention DT.
You added DT to it here insinuating Trump’s fault.
Date was enough in IMHO.

That’s the way most anti-Trumpers work.
But, hey! You’re certainly not to blame.

Well, things are different between Texas and Georgia, and I was going with the Georgia parole rules since you are flying a Ga flag on your home page.

In Texas, for most felonies one is eligible for parole after serving 25% of the sentence; for certain 3(g) offenses (including murder, sexual assault and child molestation) it is 50% and if the sentence is less than 4 years, a minimum of 2 years served.
