Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well. "Underproductive" would mean hit the hardest with shoplifting and politically correct Macy's wouldn't want to own up to that. Dimmocraps strike again!
Nah. Illegals need housing more than senior citizens. Politically connected developers will turn them in to luxury condos that will house our new illegal alien masters for free.
I haven’t needed their suits since I retired in 2006 but that was the first floor I went to when we lived in CA and also after we moved to GA...I did notice someone posted that their clothing line had moved to the NOW generation. I remember someone telling me when I shopped there last year and was critical of what I was seeing, they are targeting a different audience. I guess so. I looked at racks and racks of STUFF that made me wonder HOW do they get rid of such wretched looking stuff?
We lived in Sacramento for years and I worked downtown and K Street was the place for the high end stores (I. Magnin, Joseph Magnin, Ransohoffs etc.) and then Macy’s moved in to OLD Sacramento and we had a great choice handed to us. Even after moving to Southern CA (OC), I still shopped at Macy’s..except I think it was Rich’s then...Their clothing line at the time never varied - always classy whether casual or business.
There was a place I donated business clothing, suits etc., to and I don’t remember if it was here in GA or in CA. I believe it was picked up or I had to drop it off but the donations were used for women needing clothing for entering the job market. Kind of believe it was in CA...I thought it was a great idea.

I’ve done that with office clothes in the past and the clothes were to be used for women with limited resources to use for job interviews or to wear at their new job until they had the funds to purchase their own wardrobe. The classic black skirt, blouse, and patterned jacket is something that is no longer wanted for that purpose and apparently not in demand. I’m not sure what women are wearing to job interviews or office jobs these days.
Where are inner city yuppies going to shop?
The merchandise that Macy’s stocks now is pitiful. As I said, the store doesn’t cater to their former shoppers and Gen Z certainly is not going to pick them as their first choice for clothing. I have several “Karen Scott” brand blouses and sweaters that still look brand new even after several years of washing and wearing. That quality is no longer available. The items in their stores now are thin, poor material, and badly put together. The stitching doesn’t last past one or two washings.
It would be nice if the stores were revamped to their former style. Even in retirement I would return to shopping there for the nicer clothes that I need on occasion.

Probably best if I keep my opinion to myself - except to say - I have to look more than once to make sure my eyes aren’t deceiving me when I’m out...which isn’t very often! Did I really see what I think I just saw?
Does every older generation go through this? Think what our parents/grandparents/great grandparents had to contend with!
I had a great aunt who lived to 107 years and she thought it was shocking that girls wore “short stockings”, her words for ankle socks...we all laughed as we sat there in our “short stockings.”
