The worst thing the French did was mandating sectarian political parties for Lebanon, instead of forbidding them. The French “solution” for the sectarian divisions in Lebanon did nothing to diminish them, and instaed set them in stone and insured they’d continue to divide the country. Iran and Hezbolla just took advantge of a political system made to order for the likes of them.
