Democrats do this every election, taking advantage of the fact that political parties cannot prejudicially choose who joins them. The last time it was some kook in Illinois who ran for a GOP spot that was open in a Democrat controlled district because there were no resident GOP members who wanted to “waste time” running for a seat that was going to go Democrat whether there is competition or not.
Unfortunately, defeatist mentalities are 100% guaranteed ways to be defeated. And, they don’t even wear down your opponents by making them go through the motions and at least pretend to run.
