“30 M1s and 100 Bradleys, in an army thats got @ a thousand tanks in service plus 3000 APCs”

So go PROTEST in front of the Pentagon and tell them to send them.

The US retires advanced aircraft every year, back when this war started or before, we could have sent retiring aircraft destined for the Boneyard to Ukraine, here we are over 2 years into this war and the F-16s might get used this year.

The recent change in mission for the Marines leaves no role for A10s. The Marines got rid of most of their artillery and all their tanks, so CAS assets would seem to be out too. They arent in the beach assault job anymore. Also A10s cant fly from carriers.

“The disposition listed, of combat aircraft, represents about 9 months of aquisitions for the USAF.”

Man you have one REALLY CRAPPY job - defending the decisions of a bunch of MILITARY-HATING IDIOTS running the US as they manage to simultaneously get us into huge land wars, and then THROW OUT perfect good hardware, AT THE SAME TIME.

You can keep that job, I want NOTHING to do with it.

“I am in Spain. You go protest. I believe the relevant people here are in congress.”

You mean the ones who no longer want the US to be involved in Ukraine?

I agree.

So that’s 250 less Pilots required, or there are not enough Pilots to fly them as is?

The ratio of pilots to aircraft is normally about 2.5 pilots for every aircraft. This depends on the type of aircraft and calculations for Guard or Reserve.

No, they don't have enough pilots and aren't likely to get enough either.

155MM is pretty much the standard regardless of Theater of ops. The factory that produces same has been working OT to keep up with demand.

Biden should be refilling the Strategic Petrol Reserve. One never knows what can happen, especially in an election year.

I merely put this stuff in context.

The job of a military, among other things, is to manage inventory. If squadron A is shifting to another type of aircraft then you have to do something with the old aircraft.

What?

Btw the JASDF (Japanese military) is also getting rid of dozens of F15s, as they are receiving their F35s. They offered them to the Filipinos, but they cannot afford to run them, so they are buying new JAS-39s instead. This goes on everywhere. Thats one reason the Euros have so many F16s to give to Ukraine. Also other surplus F16s have gone or are going to the Romanians and Bulgarians.

But the only place the US planned to use so many 155mm systems was in Europe, vs Russia. Nobody is planning to run a continental scale war in Asia.

Well, thats the problem right there.
And you should not agree, as withholding US aid is a bad thing.

I bet A-10s can fly from carriers. Landing on a carrier? You ask too much...

“Just think of how much money they would save if they got rid of all the aircraft in the Air Force?”

They could save even more money by renting out all of our air bases and army posts to China and pay them to defend us.

“I merely put this stuff in context.”

You’re trying to defend the bunch of OVERGROWN HIPPIES that are now in charge of our military and their decisions are SHOWING their hatred towards the military.

But perhaps you also have long hair?

The number of pilots required are scaled to the number of units (squadrons, etc) being maintained. As far as I know there is no net reduction in these, for the most part, they are changing over to different aircraft, mainly F35’s.

I think there IS a reduction in the A10 units.

Anyway, this article is more to the point I think -

You are, contrariwise, trying to make this an emotional argument, which is never productive. And I dont get the point. People and institutions need to get the job done, the daily wash, in spite of political churn and the defects of their leaders.

I have, for many years, maintained a very short haircut, in a vain attempt at masking progressive baldness. For a while in the 80s I was doing a Richard Chamberlain look - worked really well in fern bars -

Still trying to ditch the A-10s, I see.

And over 130 fighters on the list.

Retiring thise A10s is a huge mistake....give them to Ukraine!

Give them to the Army if the Air Force doesn't want to do ground support.
