And the dictatorship of the CCP has too much control of TikTok

So the American government is going to protect my freedom by stopping me watching TikTok?

Why can't I decide what "too much control" entails?

Try posting something critical of the homosexual agenda, the Covid fiasco or the 2020 election on an American website and you'll find out about "government control".

He is parroting the official narrative. He has several things wrong. Watch that video.

Everyone is. They are all looking at the same playbook. Read through the bill myself and there is one unique qualifier sentence that unhooks from all the other language that gives the president sole power and discretion to deem any app, platform, web host, and/or all their subsidiaries a threat to national security and use this bill against them.

It is a stand alone phrase giving the president dictatorship over the whole internet in the U.S. But I’m sure we can trust him to not abuse it right?

Which doesn't apply to foreign entities. Especially chinese commies.

While I understand and can concede that the language of the bill itself may be too broad (I have not read it), I ultimately hope anything "commie owned" is either taken over by those who value liberty or crumbles to dust.

Better read it... It gives the president sole discretion to declare any app, platform, or even web hosting a threat to national security.

Exactly right!

And I hope that pesky constitution thingy wins the day, regardless of which entity is doing the publishing.

Yep... They slid that in hoping no one would catch it. This is why the Democrats are all in for it.

That must be why no-member of The Squad voted for it (7 against and 1 abstain, and Swalwell also voted against it).

“I ultimately hope anything “commie owned” is either taken over by those who value liberty or crumbles to dust.”

The democrats who fully support this are just as communist.

The CCP and PRC are granted no 1A rights under the Constitution as I understand it.

In 2020, I believe SCOTUS ruled that foreign owned entities are not entitled to 1A protection.

Foreign citizens who are physically outside of the United States do not have rights under the U.S. Constitution. Foreign nongovernmental organizations are foreign citizens as a matter of corporate law, despite being affiliated with American organizations, and as such, they are separate legal units with distinct legal rights and obligations. Therefore, the foreign affiliates have no First Amendment rights, and Congress retains the authority to condition the aid it provides to a foreign organization.

Agreed. But they, for the most part, are at least citizens and are afforded constitutional protections that are not applicable to our adversaries at the PRC.

I can concede that the language of the bill quite likely makes it a bad bill. I do not want the President of either party granted the power of sole discretion as to whether a platform qualifies for this sort of regulation. So perhaps this bill needs to die.

However, I fully support removing PRC control (divesting ByteDance) or otherwise not allowing them to infiltrate our soil.

“However, I fully support removing PRC control (divesting ByteDance) or otherwise not allowing them to infiltrate our soil.”

If it was truly limited to this fine... In no way would I defend TikTok. But it is not, it is open for expansion. The expansion in the name of national security is a huge problem.

But in the video I posted above Rand Paul explains that the narrative of the CCP owning TikTok is completely false to begin with. They have fully complied with previous U.S. corporate legislation and there are even american citizens involved in ownership.

This is a Trojan Horse to get their foot in the door of government internet control.

Thanks. I'll watch when not at work. I think we at least share some common ground here. We both can't stand commies and we both don't trust a government that claims their actions are to "protect us" from them.

I do respect and appreciate your efforts to dive deep into the issue. I look forward to hearing what Rand and Tucker have to say.

I wish we could trust them to control their power and not abuse it. But we can’t. And like others here have mentioned, the dems are already deep in bed with China and they overwhelmingly support this? Because they plan to expand it to domestic domains and platforms next.
