I wanted her to make steam , fully manned and provisioned,to sail to the Houthi Shore to stand picket there, ready to keep the high seas free.
A few broadsides guided by drone targeting intel and the Houthis would all be meeting their 72 Virgins.

The New Jersey was one of six Iowa-class battlewagons ordered by the Department of the Navy in 1939 and '40. Only four were built before the end of the war was in sight, the New Jersey, the Iowa, the Wisconsin and the Mighty Mo. All four are still afloat and serving as a combination museum and historic artifact.
Gee-whiz WWII training video about the 16-inch guns & turret:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OmOQs0ziSU
^^^ a 16-inch shell (inert) with six powder charge bags. Max range (projectile dependent) of 23 (and a fraction) statute miles. The "High Capacity" round (133.5 lbs of Composition B) will leave a crater 30 feet across and 20 feet deep.

I find it interesting that New Jersey started Its drydock a couple of weeks after USS Texas was relocated. I know the curators know each other. I wonder if they planned it?

Actually the Illinois and the Kentucky were started but never finished, and then scrapped. The bow of the Kentucky was cannibalized to repair the Wisconsin after it had a collusion.

Technically speaking the USS Kentucky also lives on at least in part as her bow is the bow of the USS Wisconsin.

well that’s what i saw today from the bridge. i noticed some small craft that i thot was nuts. same shape so i thot they might be navy or something. only me and few of my buds have ventured out while 40 degrees on the delaware on a windy day. I looked back at a larger navy vessel not the jersey. My dad served on the iowa. but i’m driving so i didn’t see the whole thing. if i had known i would have stopped for video. i was on the girard point bridge at the time. funny cuz when i looked over to see the jersey which i try to do while diving. i did notice that there was something amiss.

Wouldn’t it be something if President Trump 447 refitted all four remaining for a 5th time and used them to lay siege to the Houthis off Yemens coast.

Years ago my former employer supplied some product to do a refit on the New Jersey. I helped train them on product usage. As we got on the ship, there was a sign listing the names of several men who u assume help special honor in the shipโs history.
One was the uncle of one of my colleagues.
I still have a memento from that ship. A small piece of teak from the admiralโs deck.

Hmmmm! Since the cruise book is listed by shops/divisions, kinda hard without knowing his rating or which shop he was in. Let me know if you know and I’ll look some more. My dad was an O-5 supply officer.
