People who pay the kind of money it takes to live in an upscale building in NYC are not ok with “workarounds.” They expect to live with the least possibility of criminal activity. Management normally makes every effort to keep the tenants/owners happy. If they didn’t, it wouldn’t be an upscale building for long.
We shouldn’t have to come up with our own theories of how the criminals got access. Regardless, the article as it stands has served its purpose, i.e., a terror-inducing headline and a story short on pertinent details.
maybe the perps knew the code as delivery people, caretakers, etc - when the mother was alive, and then just moved in after she died.
The people who monitor the security cameras would have known right away that these unknown people were not tenants, whether it happened right after the mother died…or weeks later. If there was no video of “visitors” leaving the apartment, security or the superintendent would have physically checked the apartment, especially after the tenant died. This is what they get paid to do!
In 2024, most apartment buildings have decent security. To protect the tenants, yes, but also to protect their property. They don’t want troublemakers roaming their buildings.
“I’m sure ‘unauthorized people’ find ways. They always do.”
It’s been my observation that lazy people put more effort and risk into getting out of “work” than they would by actually having a regular job.
