From reports earlier- it was a DEI Build Mayor- so do you still want a ‘full accountability’? Or will that fact be buried and ‘white supremacist’ Bridge Engineers be blamed?

What led up to the ship losing navigation is that it is of poor design and does not have more than one source of power at a time for its navigation system.

All the disaster shows Hub watches it’s always a structural blunder. Corner cutting, 1972 was a different time period.

MY thoughts:

CYBER ATTACK rendered ship not steerable.

No surprise maritime professionals wanted a tunnel, but the government cut corners and built a bridge, now we suffer the consequences - “just a matter of time”

The Key Bridge
Plans to complete the Baltimore beltway loop with an outer harbor crossing were in the works for years. A tunnel was to be built just inside Fort Carroll at the entrance to the harbor. They actually started the approach ramps for the tunnel, then some bright engineer calculated that they could save a ton of money and carry more traffic by building a bridge there instead of a tunnel. It was a terrible place to build a bridge - over a main shipping channel - at the harbor entrance where ships' engines were just warming up and would most likely experience difficulties, or where the ships were slowing down to meet tugs or just having completed one of two large turns before reaching the bridge.

Short-sightedness and cost-savings made this situation possible. Whom is the governor going to blame for that?!

"Do we have the right infrastructure that’s in place to be able to protect the people of our state?” he said.

Well, when your party's platform is to promise your voters you can indemnify them against any risk of any kind, forever, you can expect to get some hard questions when you fail.

This is a classic example of a politician who has absolutely nothing of substance to say but feels obligated to squawk into every available microphone.

This syndrome is not limited to democrats.

The absence of abutments sufficient to withstand or deflect a ship collision surprises me. Yes, a big ship has a lot of mass. My layman’s sense is that the shipping channel should be designed so that an off course ship would run aground before striking a bridge pier. It’s easy to make ships run aground. Mother Nature does it all the time.

Could a ship take out the Golden Gate Bridge, the George Washington Bridge into NYC, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, etc.? I dunno. It’s probably easier to failsafe the channel than to build piers that can absorb the impact of a big ship. Is there enough room in the Patapsco River channel approaching Baltimore to do that?
