AS someone who had family drafted into Vietnam, I can assure you the United States will never have a draft again. Take it to the bank, bet on it, whatever - the Vietnam War (and the accompanying secret wars in Laos and Cambodia) showed the American public that their government no longer held the moral high ground to draft their sons, and the Gulf Wars showed they no longer had the moral authority to send volunteers into other countries.
Few if any conscripts would answer the call; I’d tell my own sons to wait until they were drafting females (that equality thing, you know?). When this country starting electing presidents who avoided the draft (not illegally evaded, but legally avoided it) over men who had served (Bush I, Dole, McCain) it was clear the WASP culture no longer prevailed and such service wasn’t valued the way it had been in the past.
Many European countries dragged their feet sending troops to join our “adventures” because their government are reasonably restrained in where they can send troops; many who require service can’t send those recruits abroad at all (so they might send a small number of volunteers instead).

Right; will do. Do you personally know any young men who would show up? I know many who wouldn’t; unfortunately the precedent set after Vietnam, when a president pardoned the draft dodgers, remains embedded in peoples’ minds.
Right off the bat, I’d love to see the legality of the draft challenged on gender lines; if it survives, anyone can identify as a woman and dodge it. Ketanji-Brown can’t tell the difference, and she sits on the Supreme Court.
You have no idea who you are talking to. I don’t intend that to be a slam/insult. I have worked in the defense industry where I have insight into production contracts, lines, facilities. I fully understand the impact to increase production, stockpiles, logistics …. The issues are immense. If we go through the immense cost for our nation no problem. A war footing for our survival is never something I would argue. However contracts to production that maximize profits to keep Ukraine in a minimal foothold is just stupid and wasteful. Our nato brothers are just as wasteful.

I just figured it out. You are UK trash. I have been part of enough Uk military sales to really know how broken your country is. If you’re not UK then by all means correct me. I can tell you long stories of 10 year old American mil systems the uk tries to buy but you safety requirements (that it can’t Hurt anybody) prevent or tripled the cost. You big wimps. Try dealing with you own crap first before busting our balls. We don’t need to drag you into survival again.
