Putin is no worse than many of the despots we put and keep in power, regimes we back up or do massive trade with.

Unless you think Saudi Arabia and the People’s Republic of China are a shining examples of democracy and human rights. (sarc)

***With Russia we simply have a conflict of interest (Ukraine) and Putin dared stand up to us (West/US).***

We didn’t expect that, and now it’s about making him pay.

It was in the US and Europe’s interest to bring Ukraine, an emerging economic power where Western business was investing heavily, into the EU (not that big of a problem), and NATO (a huge problem). Now that it serves our political and economic interests, we suddenly care about these ideas of sovereignty, democracy and human rights, (((BUT ONLY))) regards Russia and not the despots we put and keep in power, as in Jordan.

We simply do not care what promises we made regards NATO East expansion. We do not care that we withdrew from the Ballistic Missile Treaty which has implications if Ukraine is a member of NATO. We do not care if we violated Minsk. We do not care if we try to violate Montreux routinely. We do not care if we are complete hypocrites, since we would (((NEVER))) accept what we are expecting Russia to accept, a major foreign military power setting up on our border. The simple fact remains that the EU and US wanted Ukraine in the EU and NATO, and so our inconsistent faux rationalizations follow.

What is absolutely mind boggling however, are two things:

1.) Somehow this entire Ukraine issue has become where many self professed conservatives think they need to get behind. Economic and political motivated campaigns, expeditionary, and expansionist, where no one can reasonably argue a national security argument for us, are now a supposed conservative issue to get behind.

2.) The complete one sided media coverage and self censorship. Unlike Iraq where Germany and France were against the war already in 2002 when things were heading that direction, and you had negative reporting, especially once the Democrats decided to go against the war two years later under Howard Dean and use it in opposition politics (elections 2004), you had both sides presented. But in this war, it’s like watching the Wochenschau: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1rsiK1LIKk Wir Ziegen an allen Fronten! https://dea.digar.ee/cgi-bin/dea?a=d&d=deutschezeitungimostland19420902.1.4&e=-———et-25—1—txt-txIN%7ctxTI%7ctxAU%7ctxTA-—————— No kidding, that is pretty much what our Western MSM is like regards Ukraine.

There are issues where all the interests converge, i.e. Europe and the US, Democrats/SPD and Republicans/CDU, business and political. On these issues, you can forget any semblance of fair and objective reporting, even just seeing both sides of the story (they won’t even present it!). It just becomes a one-sides onslaught and Ukraine is not the first such issue, see Covid, the US 2020 elections and J6 as other examples.

In the West today, you have an active suppression of a true grass-roots national movements. People are pissed off, had enough, they are fed up. But their voice is no longer heard.

The is true in Germany where they use the intel community, law enforcement, and state influence in the MSM (öffentlich-rechtliche: ARD, ZDF, HR3, SWF...) to go after the AfD; or here in the US where we basically have political prisoners today (J6), the FBI is has defined Domestic Terrorism in a way that that makes anyone with a “Don’t Tread on Me” flag a national security threat: https://cowboystatedaily.com/2022/08/11/leaked-fbi-memo-gadsden-flag-other-symbols-are-signs-of-military-violent-extremists/

The West is in trouble because the political leadership quite frankly no longer represent the people. They are supra-national, attending Davos and Bilderberg, with the UN, and EU... and the actual people voting for these clowns (Usually you’re not given a real option) feel betrayed because that is NOT the agenda they want. Does this person really represent the pulse of the German people? Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ursula_von_der_Leyen I’m not picking on Germany, because I can tell you this guy does NOT represent the pulse of the American people: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Biden

Yes, you’re going to get those 1.2 million Syrian refugees if you like it or not. Look at that, she got an award!!! https://apnews.com/article/geneva-germany-migration-united-nations-74cb893889479afe6a98718c1d22c515 (The will of the German people?)

The government bureaucracy is of course loyal to the ruler/king, not the Constitution they are allegedly there to defend and sworn in under. What you see is a West where the political locomotive (they are in reality controlled by economic powers - heavily influenced by our oligarchs) is racing in one direction, while the people feel more and more alienated, with large segments of the population now being categorized as “threats” according to intel and law enforcement. That’s a long term recipe for disaster.

Once again, you are saying it better and clearer than any political analyst or any media scribbler :-)

I‘m utterly grateful to you 😀 May our side ultimately throw off the yoke of our evil oligarchs, who are bent on harming us, and who have no democratic mandate, as you’ve been pointing out. In many cases, they don’t even pretend to have one (!) That’s how brazen and shameless they have become☹️
