They need to go after communists, black and white...

Exactly, CW, exactly. This is what old cold warriors like me were trying to prevent when we backed the old regimes in Rhodesia and South Africa. The Soviets used Cuban proxies in Angola- and elsewhere- to spread communism. You've probably run across some of my link collections about it.

People like myself believed Apartheid a bad systmem, and a wrong system-- but one which could be replaced by a better one. Sadly, something far worse booted it out. Just as we had feared.

All of the Afrikaners, that I know, are for President Bush and the GOP.

I wish to God we had been wrong about this all too predictable ( and maybe preventable ) outcome.

I honestly believe that people are better off with more freedom, not less, and more choices- even if sometimes they make bad choices.

A constant of communist, fascist, totalitarian, dictatorial, or royalty-based governments is a tendency, if not outright preference, for suppressing freedom, choice, and dissent.

This is why I prefer and support Israel over all the other gaggle of oppressive nations in the Middle East- the Israelis, while imperfect, allow participation in the government, while citizens in the Arab states see variants of the "Iron fist in the velvet glove"-- they have no voice. No free speech. No freedom of dissent, whereas Israel seems like one big catfight among dissenters.

I really believed that the old governments of Rhodesia and South Africa could, and would, have been reformed by internal pressures, in a fair and peaceful fashion. All that is lost, now, perhaps beyond recovery.

I heard, I believe from Walter Williams when he subbed for Rush Limbaugh one time that even during apartheid, South Africa had many black Africans emigrate TO their country on an annual basis because they saw more opportunity with jobs there than what they were getting in many of the other African countries and didn't see apartheid as an obstacle since they had a promise of better employment and living there. Of course, the liberal media NEVER pointed that out.

They actually were being reformed, and I believe that they would have been totally so, if left alone. They weren't, and the ensuing chaos was VERY predictable.

I doubt that there is any hope. I hate to be this pessamisstic ; however, I just can't see a sliver of hope at all. Communism doesn't work, Marxism doesn't work, and Marxism overlaid with tribalism and racism , works even less well. A country, that's being " run " like something out of " THE LORD OF THE FLIES " coupled with black racism, is about as likely to work, as is an eight year old running NASA.

Rush was right. As a matter of fact, South Africa had a terrible illegal alien problem; far worse than what we complain about, during Apartheid. They had the militar stationed on the boarders , and electrified barbed wire fencing ... it was SO bad. OTOH, the South African blacks did NOT even try to leave, under Apartheid ; however, from the time that Mandela took over, through today, the well educated, non ANC aligned ones have / are leaving as fast as they can and many more want to.
