"Earlier today, the Spiegel Grove went down ahead of schedule and rolled to an inverted position. Welders and equipment were still on the ship, but it appears that everyone got out safely. At this time, the Upper Keys Artificial Reef Committee is trying to come up with a viable plan to roll the ship onto it's side

Why did it start to sink while people and equipment were still on board? I thought ordinance men blew things up when people were gone!

Why did it start to sink while people and equipment were still on board? I thought ordinance men blew things up when people were gone!

The only thing I can think of would be that the salvage crew removed something they shouldn't have. In such a case, even if it might have been possible to save the ship with prompt and immediate action, it may have been considered safer and, under the circumstances more prudent, just to abandon ship.
