This is CRAP! Don't they have better things to do? After reading where 88 committees/subcommittees have ties to the agencies that are going to be consolidated under the Homeland Security office, I do believe the the Congress has way too many committees and staffers. Time for them to shrink in size and get back to what they are supposed to do instead of trying to stick their nose in every little nook and cranny of people's lives! Who cares about professional athelets -- let the pro sports authorities take care of it and tell the Senate to butt out!

Just another chance for star-struck senators to invite celebrities to testify, just like Lieberman inviting the Back Street Boy to clarify coal mining issues for them. Apparently, some senator's kid wants Mark McGwire's or Jose Canseco's autograph.

I guess they need to hold a hearing on this. They hold hearings on everything else--the pompous asses just like to hear themselves blow hot air.

Sometimes, I get the feeling we don't agree on Political Strategy all the time, but I've never argued with your instinctive political principles...GET THE FEDS OUT OF OUR HAIR (and pass the savings back to those of us carrying the freight!!)

GET THE FEDS OUT OF OUR HAIR!

I just wanted to see that repeated! Have a hunch this is just the tip of the iceberg of useless hearings these folks conduct. Might be a worthwhile project to make a list of all the worthless hearings wasting our tax dollars. They seem to forget who pays the bills! Time for Congress to downsize or should I say way past time!

If baseball doesn't clean up its own act, baseball as we loved it will be dead.

Why can't they just stop it with the steroids and have the hearings on some judicial nominees. Geesh.

"...baseball as we loved it will be dead."

It's already damn close...sure, I check out the A's box score every morning, but I can't remember the last time I sat down and actually watched an entire regular season game. If they have a work stoppage this year, I'm gonna just say to heck with them.

A's are showing some life though...MUD

Slim, you wouldn't know it to look at me now, but when I was young I was a strength athlete- a quarter century ago- and this stuff was around then. I understand human growth hormones & thyroid medicine are popular now- these fools are really behind the curve, as usual.

The simple truth they choose to ignore is that when your profession involves being really big & strong, and most of the other guys you compete against take this junk, you'll be tempted to use it too... or fall behind.

"And somewhere men are laughing,
and somewhere children shout.

But there is no joy in Mudville,
for baseball has struck out."

Mud, you grew up in Mudville, did you not?

Absolute 100% agreement...then again, it's ridiculous that the U.S. Congress has become so vacuous that butting into something like this appears the least bit appealing!! What a bunch of self-important boobs!!

If they really want to look into Baseball they could look into junking its Anti-Trust exemption....
