We're only hearing about it now because it wasn't leaked, by a DemocRAT, until now.
The information was useless. We already had intel that something big was being planned, but we had no idea what it was. If this data had been translated 15 seconds after interception and a copy was handed to every single agent in the CIA, FBI and NSA, they wouldn't have been able to stop 9/11. It's irrelevant, except for liberals trying to hurt the Bush Administration.

Yawn.
" The intercepted messages gave no details of the time, location or nature of the event that was to take place"
Yeah right, there you have it folks. Total proof that George Bush helped plan the attacks.
Take this weak stuff home

I **Heard** that...
So if we simply would have covered the entire, not just NY mind you, but the ENTIRE country with fire extinguishing foam the minute we heard about "zero hour" we would all be safe right now. Safe but covered with white, gooey, sticky stuff...

So the hearings were held behind closed doors and now we get this! No wonder the Intelligence folks don't want to brief Congress -- they leak like a sieve! Now this may not be a leak but it sure looks like one!

Yawn again,if someone told you something bad was going to happen tommorow, what would you do?
Do you have so much faith in goverment agencies that you think they can protect us all womb to tomb?
For those of you I am directing this at, your lack of outrage shows your lack of concern about your nation.
I won't waste my time commenting on that statement.

We spend billions upon billions of dollars and we can't get simple cross-communication between our intelligence agencies and translations a day late. This is beside the point. The point is that EVEN if the cross-communication had been done, this information is not actionable. It's not actionable by itself -- and even less so compared to the thousands of intercepted messages saying 'BLOOD WILL RUN IN THE STREETS OF WASHINGTON!' that they must get all the time.
I agree that the security agencies interoperate poorly or not at all. But the issue is whether the information, translated in a timely manner or not, would have changed anything. The answer seems to be 'no'.

I heard about it last week. Not sure why it is hitting the papers now. It isn't a big deal in any case.

I recently heard that the CIA has only three ( THREE!!!) operatives who speak Arabic Talk about job security. These guys probably have armed escorts to ensure their safety!

It must have been leaked from Demorats in Congress.
We have no business knowing what the NSA's sources and methods are.

I recently heard that the CIA has only three ( THREE!!!) operatives who speak Arabic. Does this not strike you as a slight oversight. It's not a tricky language to learn -and who knows, in situations like this, it might come in handySounds like total BS to me. While it's true that Americans are notoriously bad at learning foreign languages, you know we've got more than three Arabic "operatives". And Arabic is not the easiest language to learn to speak or write.

Sleep tonight! Your government is awake. Paraphrasing the old S.A.C. poster:

Then on a "conservative forum" like Free Republic, we have had multiple posters on this thread say "yawn" and "more ado about nothing" and such. You are right. A Reuters article with no named sources -- on FreeRepublic instead of yawn, it usually means nausea.
