It looks like Bertha is headed right for The Big Easy. It will be the first tropical storm to get there in decades. If it gains any strength, it will be very dangerous. Some places there are below sea level.

Hopefully it will bring some drought relief without the devastation.

We really need mucho rain. Our main lake is over 12 feet from full pool. There are no docks in the water and we are only a little ways from not being able to use the boat ramps.

... A Flash Flood Watch Has Been Issued For Southeast Louisiana North Of Lake Pontchartrain... Mississippi Coast And Pearl River County Tonight And Monday...

A Flood Watch Means That Flooding Is Possible Within The Watch Area... Especially Near Streams... Bayous... And Areas Of Poor Drainage.

The Broad Center Of Tropical Storm Bertha Is Expected To Track Over Or Just North Of New Orleans And Lake Pontchartrain Monday Morning. The Heaviest Bands Of Showers With Embedded Thunderstorms Are Expected On The North And East Side Of The Center With The Mississippi Coast Receiving Heavy Rainfall This Evening. Bands Of Showers With Embedded Thunderstorms Are Expected To Move Across Inland South Mississippi And Southeast Louisiana North Of Lake Pontchartrain Mainly After Midnight. Rainfall Amounts Of To 4 To 8 Inches Are Possible Late Tonight Through Monday.

If Flooding Is Observed... Act Quickly. Move To Higher Locations To Escape Flood Waters. Do Not Stay In Areas Subject To Flooding When Water Begins Rising... And Do Not Drive Into Areas Where Water Covers The Road.

A Coastal Flood Watch Is In Effect Tonight And Monday From Pascagoula Mississippi To The Mouth Of The Mississippi River Including Lakes Pontchartrain And Maurepas.

Strong Winds Associated With Tropical Depression Number Two In The North Central Gulf Of Mexico About 85 Miles South Southeast Of Biloxi Mississippi Will Lead To The Threat Of Coastal Flooding Along The Louisiana And Mississippi Coasts From The Mouth Of The Mississippi River To Pascagoula Mississippi Including Lakes Pontchartrain And Maurepas. Sustained East To Southeast Winds Of 20 To 25 Mph With Higher Gusts Will Prevail Tonight Across The Coastal Waters And Develop Across Adjacent Coastal Areas Before Becoming Southeast To South At 20 To 25 Mph With Higher Gusts Monday Morning As The Tropical Depression Moves Slowly North Tonight And Then West Northwest Monday Before Making Landfall.

The Strong Gusty Winds Will Push Tidal Waters Along The Coast Of Mississippi And Southeast Louisiana... Including Lakes Pontchartrain And Maurepas... To Levels Of Two To Four Feet Above Normal Late Tonight And Monday Morning. High Tide Will Occur Monday Morning. The Tides Are Expected To Begin Subsiding Monday Afternoon.

All Persons In The Watch Area... Especially Those Located Outside Of A Levee Protection System... Should Take Immediate Action To Protect Life And Property And Should Be Ready To Move To Higher Ground. Remain Alert And Keep Listening To Your Radio... Television... Or Noaa Weather Radio For Updates.
