Not sure how much experience you've had with home rule but I'm still wondering if there can be an abuse of power if city hall becomes inundated with land and revenue hungry officials.
None at all. Read a lot about it though, but no actual "experience". I'm in a blue zone. Why bother, it's an entrenched mentality. My participation won't help diddly. I'm estranged enough as it is.
Seems like a small cabal of insiders could make life miserable for everyone through a blizzard of codes and regulations, insider deals, etc.
Let's see...locally, several years ago, a certain mayor/former mayor bought lots of land zoned mainly as an industrial area. Years later that land is being bought and devoloped because the zoning was changed.
Some are surely making money from zoning changes. I'm sure it happens quite frequently too.

City of Port Arthur, Texas Ordinance No. 79-78
But, by golly, we're working towards "sustainability"!

Then it's game over, and we are doomed. This is the crown jewel of the globofacist enviro movement in their plans to establish their worldwide Holy Gaian Empire. If Bush is pushing this, there is no one else powerful enough at the Fed level to stop it.

If you don't mind, I am going to steal that, that is a good response to the goofballs that are promoting it here.

Fortunately for us all, Socialism is a Religion of Peace.

Peace through submission.

I get the feeling Powell was a concession GW had to make in order to get the world bank/global economist support for his 2000 win.

What Powell is preaching here, what he is cheerleading with this speech, is just the sort of thing the antichrist needs to ascend his throne - one world, one government, one religion.

I highly recommend Escape the Coming Night(Note this cover: It is of the two World Trade Center towers in flames...book published in 1999...this cover has been replaced now.)

"peace through submission."

More likely, peace through interment....

...or peace through 'Soylent Green'. ;^)

--------------------------------------------

Bush's view is that the United States, and particularly its European descendent population, should be a sacrificial tit for the rest of the world to suck on as a cure for the problems they continue to manufacture. This is what results from electing an immature person who is not very bright, who has done little but suck on the tit of prililege for all of his life, and who is contaminated by education from Ivy League universities, to the presidency.

I waened of it 3 1/2 years ago and people here said I was nuts and a pathologically obsessed Bush-hater. I've said it since then to the same accusations. I'm saying it now. I have a kook on another thread telling me how pig-headed and wrong I am. Bush is the Judas goat to global Marxism.

When this was first released, it was mentioned that a great deal of effort was taken to craft it to enforce the importance of Market Economy. Because of this, you will find phrases such as:

Trade dwarfs aid.
Private sector accounted for 82%.
Capital flees corruption.
Mobilize developement resources to unleash human productivity.
Healthy and productive lives.
Hernando DeSoto is quoted.

Of course, if you had read it, you would know all this.

Indeed, it would be wise for him and others who purport to lead to consult history. Typically, past large conflicts between great powers were preceded by a final orgy of totally unrealistic utopian thought and the subsequent lame platitudes.

Food for thought...

The cliches you list a sprinkled to confuse the dummies in Peopia.

The fact is, the problems of corrupt and superstitious foreing areas are not being kept separate from this nation and my life or cost as they should be. We are incurring obligations along a line of social servitude I don't want. There are numerous other areas of error in the policy.

Not to discount your knowledge of foreign affairs and market economy, but I will continue to rely on the favorable conservative revues of this that were in the media a couple of weeks ago.

FWIW, the favorable revue/analysis of this that I referred to was written by Henry Lamb and published at SEPP on Aug 3.
