If the customers are dancing while they fill their tanks, they're tougher targets.

How is the Macarena supposed to combat the sniper? Just curious!

It makes him drop his weapon and run away in agony, covering his ears?

I really don't think it's panic that our government is afraid of.

Geeesh, use your imagination! The Macarena keeps the customers moving as they dance it. Also it allows people to feel less self conscious than zigzagging and ducking and it can build social rapport! This is important in liberal land.

Bottom line is that there isn't a siege mentality in the DC area. Concern and caution, no seige mentality.

I have heard that Ari, single shot theory. I don't know if it's accurate, but encircling Washington and shooting average, innocent citizens, seems like a big message to someone.

This, from The Washington Post, October 2, 2002:
"The cost of one bullet, if the Iraqi people take it on themselves, is substantially less" than going to war, President Bush's press secretary, Ari Fleischer, said when asked at a televised briefing about the cost of military action against Iraq. Asked whether the administration was advocating the assassination of Hussein, Fleischer repeatedly replied: "Regime change is welcome in whatever form that it takes." Fleischer's unusually colorful remarks created a stir in the White House news corps...

James L. "Sonny" Buchanan Jr. was shot in the chest by a sniper's bullet at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 3.

I think our government is afraid of a popular backlash against Moslems in this country.

I believe this is all directed at our political leaders in Washington, and that the shootings, like the anthrax, are meant to deter an attack on Iraq.

It WILL happen. Wheels are in motion, and HAVE been in motion. No doubt about it. Iraq will be a "free" nation. :)

Any way you look at it, it is terrorism and it is having the desired effect. I expect that this is just the beginning

Yep. Parents used to not let their teen kids go to the mall so that they could keep them from hooking up, getting into trouble, or wrecking the family car, etc etc. These days, thanks to peaceful Muslims, they will keep their kids home to keep them from being blown to smithereens from a suicide bomber. Sheesh, I miss the 80s.

Yes, my mistake. The first shooting on the same day the "one bullet" remark is reported: that's a pretty fast turnaround to get organized if all of this sniping was a reaction to Fleischer's remarks.

I think Ari Fleischer's remark was the previous day, Oct. 1, but yes, that would be a very fast reaction.
