"A lot of blame here needs to be placed on the media itself," says Allen. "These polls are put up there on Web sites and sold as if they are news, as if they are an accurate reflection of the opinions of American people, and they're not. They're completely skewed to whomever finds it first -- and, to be honest, that's never us liberals. It's always them. As long as the news media continues to report the results of an Internet poll as if it's news, the FReeping of polls will continue to be a problem." They just still don't get it....it was them, the leftist democrats, who brought polling into the foreground of policy decisions and influence....and know that it's being used against them, they're crying bloody murder.

you said "I think it would be great if FR could fund a legal arm to combat the ACLU..."
You might be interested in taking a look at this org... it does a bit to counter some of ACLU's stuff :) It's the Criminal Justice Legal Foundation, (
http://www.cjlf.org/index.html)
Here's a quote from their site "While there are multi-million dollar organizations operating nationally to protect the civil liberties of the criminally accused, CJLF is the only public interest law foundation in this nation working fulltime to restore law enforcement's ability to assure that crime does not pay."

"Theirs looks a lot like the Nazi Party lettering during WWII."Of course, now that you 've brought that to everyone's attention, they will change it post haste. I'd give it about three (3) days.

FYI the Net Nanny security software program lists Free Republic in its default list of banned sites. Of course I removed it (grin) but just be aware if you use the program yourselves.

"It's just the lunatic fringe I worry about."And yet the author would no doubt deny that the lunatic fringe on the left has taken over the DEM party. They don't seem to worry much about their own large and looming lunatics.

Does it list DU, takebackthemedia, etc? Sorry for the delay in replying. The list of Net-Nanny default banned sites includes www.freerepublic.com. However, it OMITS !!!
Some bias here, I say

"But the FReepers do seem to have tapped into a certain cultural zeitgeist, an angry streak running through conservatives pushed to their limits during the Clinton years. Boy howdy!

Good LORD in heaven! You can't even let a cuss word go here without a removed by Moderator while those self-hating anti-american lefties let all manner of curses hang out there in the breeze?
Seriously, does Net Nanny have a method for reporting obscene sites? I am on my way there now, so I'll chekc back.

DU's opposite is more like a fascist/skinhead site along the lines of StormFront. I consider myself a moderate, but agree with many of the positions taken at FR. If the left didn't control the mass media, they might have spent the time to develop a Web site that espoused more mainstream Democrat ideals. Such a site would be more comparable to FR than DU.Agreed. Anyone who thinks that DU is the ideological mirror image of FR hasn't spend much time on either site. FR is mainstream conservative (though we put up with stuff from just about anyone on the right side of the fence from RINOs to libertarians, and even stuff from liberals as long as they don't come here merely to bait). DU is a bizarre amalgam of hard left reactionaries and slightly-off-kilter unintelligent liberals who use it more as a psychological crutch than a political forum ... it's like a support group where they can all reinforce each others' angry, bitter rationalizations as to why they've been marginalized in this country. They can just be venomous without having to put forth any actual ideas deeper than "Let's boycott something and write lots of emails!"
The only reasons we really pay attention to them at all are: 1) They're so completely obsessed with us, we can't help but notice them. (If your kitchen was filled rats - the real, physical rodent kind - you'd certainly be aware of them, even though you don't want them around.) 2) They're so hilarious to watch. 3) Salon Table Talk is dead, so we had to look somewhere else for the loony bin.

This was my message to the prez of net nanny (if you see a similar message in your FR Mail, it might be the result of an errant mouse click...;) )
Message begins -----
I don't know what criterion/a you use for site filtering, but may I suggest the following site?
www.democraticunderground.com
If you wish to see their use of foul language, please see the following post/link
http://www.democraticunderground.com/articles/03/01/22_protests.html
Wherein, the "F" word is in prominent use. If you search on other words of similar ilk ("s", etc.) you will also find many hits.
I also understand you filter out Freerepublic.com. As a denizen there, I assure you that no foul language or abusive conversations are allowed. There are constant moderators who ensure that the posts are "family friendly" -- in fact many of the denizens have strong family values who would never tolerate any posts that could not be reviewed by young eyes. I suggest you review this site to determine whether reasonable exchanges of ideas requires filtering.
Thank you
(message ends)
I think it might be good if avery FReeper does the same.

"The [results of the online polls are] completely skewed to whomever finds it first -- and, to be honest, that's never us liberals. It's always them."Yeah, I guess that's why both CNN's and MSNBC's online polls today showed a roughly 70-75% agreement that Powell made a convincing case for war today, despite the fact that neither poll got any meaningful Freeping (we were all too busy talking here), and the fact that both polls got far more votes than FR even has members.
