I will never, for the life of me, understand why this man is consistently lent any shred of credibility. Instead of holding elected office and bloviating on the public's dime, he ought to be spending every waking hour on his knees thanking God almighty that he isn't in jail. He, like so many politicians, is a simply deplorable person bereft of anything remotely resembling a conscience who has consistently displayed behavior that any reasonable person would find disgusting and deplorable and would cause most people to refuse to associate with the likes of him; yet somehow, he holds an elected position of some high esteem, rather than being appropriately treated like the amoral leper that he is.
Can someone tell me: Why?
It boggles the mind, it really does.

I do not agree with Teddy on anything and detest his politics. But one thing I'd like to know is, is our government taking steps to secure the homeland before launching the attack? By this I mean, do we know where all the Iraqi nationals are in this country? Are we keeping an eye on them? Do we know what seditious plans the mosques here have to be a fifth column when the war starts? Do we have plans to expel foreign nationals from countries that hate us (including Saudi Arabia and Yemen, our allies supposedly)? What about interning people deemed a threat here? I know that will have everyone screaming about the Japanese Americans in WW2. I hope every American is vigilant and on the lookout for all those right here at home who might aid and abet Iraq during the war. The border states, north and south, should get their National Guards on the border; and if that's not enough, enlist and deputize the state militias. What are we doing to prepare here? I have heard nothing about it.

OK, Teddie-Boar. If you are a real patriot, you can address this problem in the way you do best.
Simply get Sadam drunk, load him into your big car, drive off a bridge and into the Euphrates River, abandon your drowning passenger, and flee the scene under cover of darkness.....

President Bush had an opportunity Tuesday night to explain why he believes such a radical departure from longstanding policy is justified or necessary. You slept through the speech, which probably explains why you've got it all wrong.

I think the White House ought to send Teddy a case of Johnny Walker as a "gift". By the time he sobers up and stumbles out of his Senate office this will be all over.

Perhaps you're asking the impossible. You may find this hard to believe but it is very easy to find people in MASS who believe Saddam is telling the truth and our President is lying about Iraq.

It is the power of myth. The Kneedy myth is still powerful in the New England area. Recent revisionists accounts of the Kennedy adminstration have come out which have taken down the appraisal of the "best and the brightest" several notches.
Nevertheless, there are a number of fanatical Kennedy hagiographers who continue to avidly push the "Camelot" myth.

Ted's very being is a mass of destruction - of principles, truth, values, morality, a beautiful young girl, etc. etc. etc. Look to the father (Joe Senior) and his behavior coupled with the fact that whole bunch of them were not, in hindsight, all that bright. Charismatic and wealthy, yes. Bright, no. Camelot's gone and Teddy's left with nothing but besotted old money and rotting rhetoric.

I've never heard any reports that the administration has ever contemplated a pre-emptive nuclear strike against Iraq.See this FR thread, U.S. Weighs Tactical Nuclear Strike on Iraq, for the press reports that Senator Kennedy was discussing. The Washington Times also referred to press reports of the use of nuclear weapons against bunkers in its article on the President authorizing the use of nuclear weapons should Iraq use chemical or biological weapons.
Although several freepers here enjoyed making fun of Ted, I would hope that the President does not authorize any use of nuclear weapons against conventional hardened targets, such as command & control bunkers. First use of nuclear weapons just to hit underground targets would be morally wrong given that we will easily win this war.

We could drop his corpulent hulk on Baghdad and destroy it.
Daschle for Mecca.
Fat Man and Litlle Boy: the sequel.

Remember this old National Lampoon ad? The Kennedys threatened legal action and the 'Poon pulled the issue, but not before over 200,000 copies had been sold.
If Ted Kennedy drove a Volkswagen, he'd be President today
It floats.
The way our body is built, we'd be surprised if it didn't. The sheet of flat steel that goes underneath every Volkswagen keeps out water, as well as dirt and salt and other nasty things that can eat away at the underside of a car. So it's watertight at the bottom. And everybody knows it's easier to shut the door on a Volkswagen after you've rolled down the window a little.
That proves it's practically airtight on top. If it was a boat, we could call it the Water Bug. But it's not a boat, it's a car.
And, like Mary Jo Kopechne, it's only 99 and 44/100 percent pure. So it won't stay afloat forever. Just long enough. Poor Teddy. If he'd been smart enough to buy a Volkswagen, he never would have gotten into hot water.
