that's 'cuz i was wearing my new cloak....

LOL.
Crossed your mind, have I? Hope I didn't step on anything in there. :)

Well, I am doing very well, thanks.
I just got back from CPAC, and have been trying to catch up from being out of the office for several days.

Today I have mostly been listening to the UN coverage on C-Span and Freeping (as opposed to actually working).
I hope you're doing well too!

FRegards...

CD

Sounds like it.

Aside from being sed by doctors and pilots, this could be used in banks, residencies, etc.

pilots who wish cockpit floors were transparent for landings.

I'm envisioning this, and it sounds very disturbing. Basically, the bottom of the cockpit disappears on landing.

I'm still a snotty stay-at-home mom....except when I'm working at the girls' school...BUT we had our interview today for our oldest to start middle school at a Christian Academy next year. The principal and headmaster are right now thinking either:

a) these people would fit in well or

b) these people need help

either way, I'm sure we're in, right? har har

I had meant to FReepmail you a heads-up on the NOVA show last night...Battle of the X-Planes. My brother is part of the JSF team...it was a pretty cool show. (actually, there was a thread last night about it afterwards)

There is something odd about this photo, transparency effect aside.

Note the angle of the shadows of the three walkers behind the wearer and compare the angle of those shadows with the shadows of the cyclist and person carrying the blue bag. The sun would seem to be in a markedly different position for the three walkers vs the cyclist and bag carrier.

Note also the abrupt end of the shadow extending from the building corner. It does not continue behind the wearer, even though the shadows of the 3 walkers are visible.

Odd inconsistencies which make me wonder if the image isn't doctored.

No, the fictional inspiration wasn't the Bond movie: in Escaflowne, one of the most popular anime of the 1990's, the anthropomophic fighting machines serving the villains have stealth cloaks (literal cloaks, at that) which render them invisible, but have the drawback that they can't be used in flight.

If the method can be extended to the full electro-magnetic spectrum, radar won't be any good, you'll need Hitomi Kanzaki to find things hidden in the cloaks. ^_^ (Japanese-style smiley).

I've got a very strong, and somewhat educated, belief that the US military is way, way ahead of this guy's research in this field.

The images behind the "invisible green cloak" are problably the ones synthesized by the camera but from another angle. The shadows outside the cloak are self-consistent as are those behind the cloak. The two sets are not consistent with each other. The article did mention using "other" images to make it work.

Yeah, ok. sounds cool. (note to self: 'literal' and 'anime' don't mix well).

But anyway, I think you meant to send your message to wideawake for his 'Bond' comments made in post 4.

Well...note the 3 walkers are directly (180 degs) behind the wearer. The camera angle seems limited to the width of the 'cloak', and within that range, a variance in the shadow angles (maybe 30-45 degs?) doesn't seem possible.

What seems a better explanation is two photo's taken at different times and superimposed by the imaging technology. But why such a time-lapse?

The time lapse looks funny doesn't it. I would have guessed that there were cameras photographing the obscurred area from the side. The the images would be imposed. It does look as if the people were rotated into position but not the shadows.

Maybe it's just a publicity shot and not real time.

I'm hopelessly reminded of the Ed Begley, Jr. film in Amazon Women On The Moon in which he plays The Son Of The Invisible Man.

Ed Begley Jr. plays a man who only thinks he’s rediscovered the formula to turn a man invisible. Showing off his new-found formula to a friend, he undresses and makes for the local pub, where he proceeds to parade buck-naked in full view of the customers. He lifts glasses, removes hats, throws darts, all the while commenting to the (obviously bored) onlookers "ooh, how is that moving by itself! Maybe it's a ghost!" Everyone humors him until the boys with the rubber trucks, carrying the coats with extra long arms, arrive to haul him away.
