Keep in mind that Gennadiy Andreyevich Zyuganov, the Communist Party candidate, won 30% of the vote (vs. Putin's 50%) in the 2000 presidential election...

Yea, you're right about their "youth"; Ivanov (Defense Chief) is only 50, but he's also ex-KGB. I would guess all those ex-intelligence guys are yearning for something from the past though, dont you think?

Yea, but it looked like Putin had a "special" relationship with Bush, at least in the beginning. I guess it wasnt "tangible" enough, though...

A poll in the same paper claims that 80% of Russians want the US to lose the war to Iraq.
I wonder who they polled, old Politburo members? :-)

Blah, blah, blah, blah...
Sounds like somebody pissed in Buslayev's wheaties this morning.
>>Cheap and high-quality Iraqi oil is the prime goal of the >>game.
Yeah, we all know thats what China, Russia, France and Germany are after. I think he just has the countries mixed up.
This reminds me of the link someone posted to me the other day as the russians were trying their hand at spreading propaganda. It showed a picture of Americans in foxholes taking a rest while the headline pronounced it as a massacre and tried to make it look like the Americans were actually casualies of the war....leave it to the spin doctors.

If I were them, I'd start packing. Many have already left. Many are in Alaska. A self-confident bunch if there is one. Easily a match for Iraqi self-confidence.

I think they learn at intellegence work how to distrust very muchWell, intelligence guys supposedly are rational and realistic, and should be able to calculate their strengths and weaknesses and know what kind of leverage they hold.. If theyre really helping the Iraqis overtly, Putin is really digging a hole for himself. More stupid than anything else.

I dont think it was meant as a joke. It was being used in the same way that saddam is using his videos

Many have already left. In more ways than one. With their current birth rate, life expectancy and "robust" economy, I'd say the outlook in general was less than "bullish". And now the foreign policy stupidity of these former KGB apparatchiks. Time to place your bets elsewhere!

Russia and the United States could be solid allies. After all, Muslim terrorists threaten your country as well as hours. Plus, we've certainly done our part to try to help assist your economy. I'm not sure what kind of game Putin is playing, but in my opinion he's going down a foolish path.
