You hit the nail on the head. We need to be out there, trying to get our message to the world.

Long live the Legion! I remember the storyline with the Sun-Eater fondly - I was traumatized by Ferro Lad dying to save the galaxy. That just didn't happen in the Legion then! The Adult Legion stories, Universo, the Fatal Five...ahh, that's the good stuff.
Love Cap too - C.C. Beck is one of the most underrated comics creators of all time. The Mr. Mind storyline is a hoot and a half!

I had no idea about Marvel. Oh well another one bites the dust and enters my boycott list.I'm still checking out XMEN 2

For what it's worth, the best portrayal of government in a Marvel comic has been in "Black Panther." There was a great arc a year or so back where a supporting character was debating domestic policy with the President, and the President was written as witty and intelligent. Three cheers to Christopher Priest...President Bush? Or a generic "President?"

Betcha we never see a cover TODAY like this one...

Ahhh...Mac Raboy art! Gorgeous cover.
Apropos of nothing, I have a Captain Marvel Adventures cover by Kurt Shaffenburger that has a dinosaur humping Cap's leg! Those are some seriously wacky books!

Sounds more like the Rawhide Kid. The new homo hero. Isn't he a new Marvel character?

Forget Marvel - read Johnny the Homicidal Maniac by Jhonen Vasquez.

Actually we need both the boycott and alternatives.
PAX and then Fox may be the logicial ones to let them know that you are boycotting a left wing program. Then ask them to come up with a Pro America/American alternative.
If they know that there is a market waiting, they might develop an alternative.

an unethical president wanted Captain America to do something illegal Just a minor correction, although Cap has gone against presidents in the past, that time it was a corrupt general.
The scene appears in the Daredevil storyline "Born Again" (which was collected in a trade paperback of the same name). One of my favorite comic book stories of all time, it also featured what I consider to be the best one-line description of Cap: "An old soldier, with a voice that could command a god... and does." (The god mentioned being Thor, of the Avengers.)

Please. You have no idea about Chris. The X-Men ROUTINELY touched on spiritual issues and didn't complain endlessly about racism, although it did surface now and again. His characterization and plotting were excellent. The characters SHONE and were 3-d.

Is your issue in condition that looks good enough to get graded? If so, graded comics tend to be worth a lot more. Information is available at

Mac Raboy, C.C. Beck, Kurt Schaffenberger, Jack Kirby...I miss those guys. And heck, I wasn't even alive in their heyday (most of 'em). But for my money, nobody will ever beat...

Let's not forget about all homosexual characters. First in The Hulk, and recently in Green Lantern. I've heard that a homosexual superhero is coming, as well.
I stopped collecting comics about 5 years ago (at wife's insistence). While I still yearn for a good read, it was getting ridiculous to see 5 monthly Spider-Mans and Batmans; only so many good writers out there. The new Ultimates, from what I've been able to see, have been pretty good.

Of course in this cynical age, things have to be "edgy" to sell.
How can one produce something edgy enough to sell without dying of cynicism?
This is a problem with the right: We tend to see things in a black and white way, while shades of gray make plots more interesting.
The black and white view seems the truer one, but it creates corny plots.
How can one create something on the right side without being corny?

Please I read three years worth of X-Men, X-Factor, New Mutants and whatever the hell other spinoff he made (Dazzler, but I never liked that one) and EVERY SINGLE story was about racism. His characters and plotting WERE excellent until about 1987 and then all he could talk about was racism, he went down the complete crapper unable to come up with any story that didn't revolved around evil short sighted white men trying to kill all the muties. I was a big fan of the mutants series; my comic book reading was mutants, Dr Strange and Batman, and Claremont ruined everything he touched. I'll give him credit for making it golden first, but along with that credit must come the blame for destroying half a dozen fine comic book series with endless monotonous soapboxing. Probably the worst part of the whole thing was that the stories SUCKED, if you're gonna expect me to pay a buck and half to be preached to at least make it mildly entertaining.

How can one create something on the right side without being corny?Deal with the interior person as well as the exterior actions.
We aren't moral by nature, but only by habit--and it's very easy to break that habit.
Let a reader or viewer SEE that wrestling with shades of gray must ultimately be backstopped by black and white, lest one lose their way.
