"This really isn't difficult to follow. "

Yes, and your 'reality is relative' stuff doesn't follow, or didn't you get that from teh illustration?
I suggest a simple test, step out teh window.
;-)

"The point is, you can't CONFIRM that "perception of reality" = "true reality." -vion

I think we CAN prove that.
Step out the twelfth floor window.
Reality and perception says that you WILL fall and you WILL die.
Perception does equal "true reality."
Test it out Vion, tell me how it turns out.
Step out the window.

I should have stuck the caveat in there of 'Hollywood'.
I'm wondering if he WILL step out a twelfth floor window trying to prove me wrong.

Since this is only and illustration,

Proof that the replacement of editors with spell-check
has resulted in more typos getting into print.

The Blair Witch sequel
"Book of Shadows" isn't great,
but it's all about

people finding out
their perceptions have been skewed.
The movie's climax

really gives me chills.
It isn't a great film, but
it has some great bits . . .

Check out 'Vion' at post 17 who resurrected this thread from 2003.
He thinks you can wish reality away, apparently from his two posts.

Well, if he does step out the twelfth floor window, his perceptions won't be skewed...
*snicker*

EVERYTHING you sense is your perception of reality. It's pretty arrogant to assume that "your perception" exactly equals "reality."
Tell your words to those people who say they have been kidnapped by aliens (which happen to look like aliens in Hollywood movies). Ever had a dream when you sleep? Are you absolutely certain that whatever you sense is real?
Please answer this question: how do you define "reality"? If you DEFINE "reality" = "whatever I sense" then it's a different story and I'll shut up right away.

"EVERYTHING you sense is your perception of reality."

Test it Vion.
Step out the window.
You've said that the perceptiopn is wrong.
Test it Vion, show that the perception is wrong.
Steo out the window.

"Ever had a dream when you sleep? Are you absolutely certain that whatever you sense is real?"

Ever step out a twelfth floor window Vion?
Are you certain the pavement crushing your skull when you hit the ground is real?
How can you know?
By your own statements and flawgic it is a flawed perception.

"You've said that the perceptiopn is wrong."
When did I say that? I said you can never confirm that your senses are correct. They are probably quite accurate most of the time, but we cannot confirm/know that for certain.
I see you've ignored my question. You've also ignored my example that some people think they've got kidnapped by aliens -- by the way, those people have been checked by psychologists and all are deemed normal.
Again, I'll ask these questions: how would you define "reality"? Do you define "reality" = "whatever you sense"?

Post 17 you moronic thread resurrecting 'reality is relative' troll.

"We cannot make a conclusive statement about reality unless we assume that our senses give us a PERFECT picture of reality."

I know.
He says reality is not knowable, that our poerceptions may be wrong, and when asked to test it out by stepping out the twelfth floor window, he chickens out.

Btw, I'll answer your question. I might one day have a dream where I jump off a 12-storey building and crack my skull. Will it feel real? I'll bet it will. But then I'll wake up and still be alive.

Let's go through this step by step:
1) You believe that our senses are 100% accurate.
2) You believe that "reality" = "our perception of reality"
3) What's your proof? Because it "feels real."
Great logic. It "feels real," that's why it must be real. Isn't that what you've been saying all along? Apparently, you just know something is real because it "feels so real." Yea, those people who say they got kidnapped by aliens also say "it felt so real."

But can we be sure we really know UNNNNNNGH? Is there a state of UNNNNNNGHNESS that we can truly participate in through a moment to moment embededness in it's apriori essence?
