You know, some of us have professional exams to study for and can't traipse around the country harassing democrats. Heck, we have Parks Helms right here in town! Not to mention Johnny Edwards, if he ever stops by NC again.

ABC 2004: The May 3 South Carolina Democratic presidential candidate debate:

If you aren't named "Shapiro" or "the Los Angeles Times ed board," surely you can feel the excitement in the air as the Collision in Columbia is only a week and a half away.

For reporters who are starting to plan their trips to South Carolina for the debate, here are some ideas to get another story out of the journey. LINK

And here is some help for you from the good people of the state government. LINK

And some state facts. LINK

And the latest on the Golden Corral buffet! LINK

PPM, I've been away. What time does this go down. I may still have time to jump in the car and be there.

I just found this Press Release at the SC Democrats website:
-----------------------------------------------------------------

South Carolina Democratic Party Announces Dem Weekend 2003 Party's Event Features First Presidential Debate, Hosted by ABC News

(Columbia) - South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Dick Harpootlian proudly announces Dem Weekend 2003, May 2-4, that will play a major role in the nomination for the party's 2004 candidate for President of the United States.

In conjunction with the Party's Dem Weekend 2003, ABC News will host the first televised debate of the 2004 candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination featuring all nine of the contenders who have formally established campaigns. The nine candidates are: Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun, Governor Howard Dean, Senator John Edwards, Congressman Dick Gephardt, Senator Bob Graham, Senator John Kerry, Congressman Dennis Kucinich, Senator Joseph Lieberman and Reverend Al Sharpton.

The debate will be held Saturday night, May 3, from 8:30-10:00 pm EDT at the Longstreet Theater on the campus of the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC. The debate will be made available to C-SPAN, South Carolina Educational Television and ABC network affiliates around the country.

The debate will be moderated by ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos. ABC will orginate a live broadcast of "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" the following morning from the same location.

The State Democratic Party is also pleased to announce that most of the party presidential candidates will be in attendance at the Party's annual Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner Friday, May 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Seawell's Restaurant. Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) will be the featured keynote speaker.

"This is going to be the biggest political event in the history of South Carolina." said Dick Harpootlian, Chairman. "This only illustrates the prominence that the candidates place on the South Carolina Presidential Primary next year," Harpootlian said.

Three national Democrats from South Carolina are assisting with arrangements; Don Fowler (Columbia), former Chairman of the National Democratic Committee; Mike McCurry (Abbeville), former Press Secretary to President Clinton; and Marcia Hale (Aiken), former Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for President Clinton.

Events during the Dem Weekend 2003 will be open for media coverage to credentialed press. Credentials may be obtained by contacting Joanie Lawson, Executive Director at 803/799-7798 or jlawson@scdemocraticparty.org. A media advisory will follow with details on credentials and lodging arrangements for the press who have not made their own.

Swampy, I was at the NRA annual meeting from Thursday till Sunday. Friday was the last day to apply for the permit and only two other people expressed an interest. I believe we cannot go as an organized group, but can show up as individuals as long as we keep moving and stay on the sidewalk.
