Triple negative. Three demerits

Three negatives make a positive.

Hehehe....I have to admit, I was pretty cocky about it myself at the time when I realized that I had gotten myself all psyched out for nothing.

...to all the teachers that teach math.

Do you mean, "...to all of the teachers who teach math."?

Please forgive me: Math is not my strong suit, so I'm taking it out on all of you.

:-)

Statement: "Fla. Teacher Failed Math Test 6 Times"

Query: Could it be possible that those of us who are opposed to euthanasia are mistaken?

And how come almost every other profession has to have credentials and must demonstrate their work ability, except for teachers??

Have to have a teaching credential: Bachelor's degree plus one year.

Have to pass CBEST test, being tested in English composition, math and the mechanics of English.

:-)

...by someone that has specialized...those that are focused...those that are focused...type people that focus...person that loves...

People are never "that." They are "who/whom."

...by someone who has specialized...those who are focused...those who are focused...type people who focus...person who loves...

If you ever want a short lesson on how to determine when to use "who" and when to use "whom," let me know.

No need...it's tough to be human. You might notice in my tag line that I have consistent failings, to add to my other, numerous "uh-oh's."

Your post was, however. wonderfully gracious. Thank you.

these tests are a joke

That's true. Reading, writing, and arithmetic: the 3 R's. She doesn't have a problem calling arithmetic an R, and R is just a variable. For example, if 2 + R = 3, what is R? Maybe it's word problems that are blocking her. That would be funny.

If she's an ENGLISH teacher, why is a math test so important? As long as she's not teaching math, I don't see the need for it.

Well, that's likely Ms. Cougill's attitude as well...

I almost majored in Classics, but I had stopped Latin to take German in high school, so I didn't have enough time to finish my Latin and take enough Greek too while still keeping up my German! But that didn't stop me from taking as many courses as I could. Fortunately a lot of the courses (Greek History, Roman Law, Thucydides, etc.) were double credit in Classics and History.

I wish I could go back to school knowing what I know now. I would have worked harder and taken more courses and spent less time doing athletics and extracurricular stuff!

I remember having to read Thucydides "Peloponnesian War".

It was a strange combination of fascinating and boringly difficult to read. It is amazing, assuming Thucydides in fact recalls it correctly, all the extreme details such as the speeches of different heralds etc.

A much more readable book was Xenophon's Anabasis.

I'm with you in trying to break the stranglehold of the teachers' unions on the educational system but give up the rampart of minimal standards showing teachers competency and you will have NO standards at all except paying union dues to NEA or AFT. And you can bet your ass that you will regret that!

It isn't even the unions which are the real source of the rot. It's the teachers colleges. Even if a collective bargaining agreement herded all the new teachers with real substantive degrees in place of "education degrees" with their three-credit courses on how to use AV equipment into the NEA the problem would be fixed.

If the unions didn't have the school systems accepting the products then the colleges wouldn't be producing it. The unions drive the bus.

Oh, the speeches are just set pieces - that was expected of all writers at that time. Sort of like Samuel Johnson "reconstructing" Parliamentary debates, and making the MPs' speeches ever so much better than they were originally.

Unfortunately, since I started Greek in college I spent way too much time (in my opinion) with Plato's Dialogues. But Greek has been very handy for reading the New Testament in the original!

It looks like you just gave me one. And thanks. Can you elaborate? Always looking for someone that who can offer improvement in English.

That's true. Reading, writing, and arithmetic: the 3 R's.

You may have identified the root problem. 2 of the 3 R's don't start with an R. ;-)
