Years ago, Kodak put out a pamphlet on photographing lightning. It's probably still available, somewhere.

We use a Leica M-3 with a 50mm Summicron on a tripod, and fairly slow film, mounted in a sheltered place looking towards the storm. (Or have the assistant (that's me) hold a large umbrella over the tripod.) Stop the aperture down moderately, focus to infinity, turn out all the ambient lights you can, and point the camera towards the active cloud. Put the shutter on "B" and hold the shutter open for a few seconds hoping to get a "ZOT", then move on to the next. We've had pretty good luck with this method, although it wastes a lot of film, film is cheap.

Ummm, I am 6'3", holding an umbrella in or near an active cell gives me the eebee jeebees. I hope that is a Bamboo umbrella, not that it would matter, considering water is a great conductor :)

Don't worry, there's no way you can ever stop me from re-registering...

Harrummmph! The Viking Kitties can breed faster and more often than you can re-register, my friend.

Yes, stand nearby Sandbridge in August, wear a lightning rod! You can also find "Petrified Lightning" and Lightning glass there. You have to get it before the rip currents take it out to sea.

You make your being ZOTTED quite entertaining. Even though I may disagree with you, I'm still enjoying the Viking one as seen above. :)
