You know, you're right Lorianne.

I'll immediately send my daughter(Ok I don't have one in reality) on a camping trip with an older man, and my other one on an outing with Rosie O'Donnell.

And also, I'm going to make sure my other daughter spends PLENTY of time with that 30 year old she met on the internet who wants to be her "mentor."

Either you are awfully naive, or willfully ignorant.

Because these cases are the EXCEPTIONS does not mean that one should be stupid.

Do you lock your doors at night? And if so, isn't that indicting all night-time travellers of being burglars and home invaders?

No? Ok then.

my 14 yr old daughter gets mad because we are involved in almost everything she does from the Young Marines to sports to grilling her on social activities.
When my daughter attends a party I walk her to the door to meet the parents and makes sure there's adult supervision.
We rarely let her sleep over anyone's house unless we know them EXTREMELY well-it's a very rare occurance. Most parents are way more lenient in what they allow their children than we are. I just see no reason to allow sleep overs although kids are always welcome at our house. Most of the parents don't know us from Adam yet they have no problem letting their daughters stay at our house. We know we're trustworthy but they don't. One girl came home on the bus with daughter and stayed the whole weekend because we couldn't reach her mom and Mom never called to make sure of where she was at. We didn't even know these people. Very nice girl but I couldn't believe her Mom basically left her with strangers for the weekend. Then on Sunday the older brother came to pick her up and honked for her from the street. I never cease to be amazed.
Of course, all that supervision still hasn't kept dear daughter completely out of trouble but we do the best we can :)

Richard Kimball: DO NOT allow an adult man to be alone with your teenage daughter unless you want him to have sex with her. GOT IT? Adult men SHOULD NOT be alone with teenage girls. EVER. GOT IT? After girls go through puberty, they are sexually attractive to men. Men WILL try to have sex with them. GOT IT? Fourteen, fifteen and sixteen year old girls ARE sexually attractive to adult men. GOT IT?

I was responding to the above by Richard Kimball. It seems like an example of extreme bias against men, all men. From this viewpoint, if it were true, I would say that men are not trustworthy in society, ever, every single one of them.

Never let your daughter alone with her father? Her grandfather? Her brother? Your pastor?

If the above is true, then fathers should be kicked out of the house once their daughters reach puberty. Grandfathers and relatives should be only allowed chaperoned visits with their teenage relatives.

To me Richard's view is extremely pessimistic about men. All men. Not some men, but all men, are potential rapists. If this viewpoint is valid, then I propose that we drastically overhaul our society, and for one thing, disallow male police officers or men in any position of authority, where they could misuse their power over young women. No male pastors. No male teachers or coaches. Males should be prejudged to be a menance to society, because according to Richard, they cannot be trusted to control their sexual impulses.

Ah but it's not rape if it's consensual.

I think that's also something RK was getting at, though I could be wrong.

Huh? An adults having sex with a minor is statuatory rape (AOC depends on the state). Besides you missed the point of what RK was saying. He's saying men can't be trusted to control their sexual impulses. Therefore GIRLS should be sequestered away from them. (No one asks why the controls shouldn't be placed on the men, not the girls).

This is the same logic that the Taliban (and others like them) use for making women cover up and stay separate from men. That men cannot be held responsible for their own sexual impulses, which are so overwhelming and uncontrollable that women must be entirely covered and entirely separated from men .... and that society must be organized around external controls to mitigate men's inability to control themselves.

If we accept the premise that all men are potential rapists, then we'd have to change our society to deal with that fact. When do we get started?

Rape is a crime. Statuatory rape is a crime. Being a female is not a crime (yet). But history has shown that societies with Richard Kimballs view of males, tend to regulate and restrict the lives of ... not males .... but females.

I'm glad that you seem to be succeeding for the most part! I'm still in the middle of it--my daughters are basically good, sensible girls, but even with that type one has to be on the lookout. We have been tricked by one of them many times.
