"They also say the Amazon River basin was agricultural with a huge population before it was allowed to return to nature not so long ago." Yup. I saw one guy, after viewing hundreds of miles of man made canals, etc, say that the population had to have been around 50 million to accomplish what he had viewed in the Amazaon basin. The assumption was that these people died from/after contact with the Europeans. (Diseases)

"I saw that show. After an hour of him expounding his theories, the lake he identifies through satellite imagery as being the long lost city of Atlantis turns out to be a mining resevoir built in 1950." I don't remember seeing the part about the mining resevoir. Is that the same one where they try to get the boat through the long canal but, there isn't enough water in it to do so?

"Some observers have correlated the demise of the indian populations with a period of severe drought that resluted in a migration of the people to more hospitable environs." There does seem to be good evidence for severe droughts in the region.
Check out this cause for migrating.

Don't know if it matches Plato's description of Atlantis in any way. According to the shows I've seen on it, it does. But then we all know how people twist things to fit their concept of reality.
