Maybe Bush just wanted to "applaud" the SCOTUS ruling in favor of "diversity" some more, and JJ seemed appropriate company for the celebration.

I believe this is the guy who sandbagged the President - asked to meet with Bush and didn't tell Bush Jackson would be attending the meeting. It was an impromptu meeting - and not something Bush set up.
But the blacks are always looking for an excuse to dislike Bush - guess they have made one now!

Rush played a clip YESTERDAY from Mr. Innis saying that he found out the President was hoodwinked, and was told he would be meeting with Congressman Cummings, when Jesse came in. Innis said it was NOT the President's fault.

The "outrage" by black leaders over the meeting is old news.

A top black Republican Party insider, who asked not to be named, believes Bush addressed the Urban League on the mistaken belief that it would help him win support from black voters in next year's election. "The president has about as much chance of getting votes from the Urban League as he does from convicted felons at Folsom Prison," he said. That sums it up precisely.

Why is meeting with Jessie pandering? How the heck do you know what went on during the short meeting? Geeze. I detest the jerk too, but pandering?

Many of these church leaders are turning away from what they describe as the "declining civil rights industry" which emphasized protest and political power, in favor of operating community services. A healthy sign.
Good post.

What in the hell is Bush doing pandering to Jesse Jackass? Listening to Karl Rove and striving to lose the 2004 election.

In my (not so humble) opinion, just being in the same room with Jesse Jackass is pandering to him. Every time a prominent person meets with that shakedown artist they breathe new life into his delusions of relevance and worth.
Now, after reading some of the other posts and realizing that he was sandbagged into the meeting and could not get out of it without seeming tactless and petty, I can understand his rationale and why he did it.
But that just means he needs to work double-hard, again, in my opinion, to reach out and connect with the Black Conservative community. They support him, they deserve his support.

"He DOES support school choice. He doesn't stand a chance in he!! of getting it passed right now. We need not only him, but a CLEAR REPUBLICAN MAJORITY IN THE SENATE in '04." Give me a break. The GOP controls both houses of Congress and there has not been one serious conservative domestic initiative (save the tax cut). If Bush supports school choice so much why did he have that DOE lovefest with Teddy Kennedy? He didn't even try to get it passed. I don't think for one minute that the GOP would try to do anything "rash" (i.e. a nationwide concealed carry or a 15% reduction in spending) if they had a very clear majority in both houses.

A big AMEN on that!
...I believe that's a line from one of 'The Godfather' films. And in this case, it certainly makes a lot of sense, sort of like the scripture which tells us by treating our enemies with kindness, we heap hot coals upon their heads.
