Did you miss post #9 above? Perhaps you don't know that more law students from Texas Tech pass the bar exam the first time around than any other law school in Texas? They are also the only university to offer a medical and law school on the same campus with their academic studies. I chose to attend Texas Tech over all the other schools in Texas because it had a good business school and the students and locals were friendly and down to earth. I was also suspect of any school that would choose orange or maroon as their school colors. :) P.S. I am a die hard Red Raider but will admit that the Aggies have an excellent band. I tried to think of something positive about the Longhorns and could only come up with thanks for a good fight song which we changed the words to...Texas bite, Texas bite, Texas jump up and bite my...

If you would look you would see that my post was specifically in reply to #9.

I attended Texas Tech for a year in the '60s. It cost me a small fortune to have my car repainted and the glass replaced, and my teeth have never been the same.

Lighten up.

Sorry, you're wrong about more law students from Tech passing the bar the first time around. Way wrong. The Texas Board of Law Examiners reports the following:

July 2002, Texas Tech - 84.33%, behind Baylor, SMU, U of H, and UT.

July, 2001, Texas Tech - 89.1%, behind Baylor, U of H, and Texas.

July, 2000, Texas Tech - 86.57%, behind Baylor, U of H, and Texas.

Source: http://www.ble.state.tx.us/Stats/main_stats.htm

Also, of the state law schools, only UT & SMU rank in the 1st tier of U.S. law schools as ranked by US News. Tech's law school ranks in the fourth tier, the lowest ranking tier.

Actually, you need the thumb included to do that. The horns are the sign of the devil.

You are absolutely right about the first time bar exam results. I put my SO in the doghouse for telling me that, but I think I know what he must have seen. The B of LE shows 2 months for each year--February and the July statistics you had. In February of 2000 100% of Tech first time exam takers passed. That was the highest total for that testing period. He said he read it in a media guide which I am assuming he got at a football game in the fall 2000 season.

I have been enlightened by you and appreciate the clairification. I cannot post the link for Feb.2000, but it is exactly the same page you were linking to for the July scores. :) P.S. He got out of the doghouse pretty fast because he's a great SO and neither of us want to tell a whopper on purpose--there's enough of those floating around the media right now to last a lifetime.

I was there late 70's and never saw a fight in the 4 years I was there. I heard about fights between guys that had too much to drink at some of the local bars, but that's it. I am guessing from your post that you had a bad run in with someone...? As far as lightening up, whenever I sing the Texas bite my ... song I have a smile on my face and am not taking myself too seriously!! That is why I had a smiley face in my post. :) What I remember to this day is the closer I got to Lubbock, the friendlier people got. Ten family members have gone to Tech and it was a great experience for us. Sorry your time there wasn't more pleasant!

Jim Rome needs to do some homework.
Texas A&M, the state’s first public institution of higher education, was opened on Oct. 4, 1876 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas.

From tu's own website: The university was formally opened in the new building on September 15, 1883. Five years later. Math is not Jim's strong suit.

"...And what I seen was this whole raft of people a-sittin' on these two banks and a-lookin at one another across this pretty little green cow pasture."

"Somebody had took and drawed white lines all over it and drove posts in it, and I don't know what all, and I looked down there and I seen five or six convicts a running up and down and a-blowing whistles . And then I looked down there and I seen these pretty girls wearin' these little bitty short dresses and a-dancing around, and so I thought I'd sit down and see what it was that was a-going to happen."

"About the time I got set down good I looked down there and I seen thirty or forty men come a-runnin' out of one end of a great big outhouse down there and everybody where I was a-settin' got up and hollered! And I asked this fella that was a sittin' beside of me, "Friend, what is it that they're a-hollerin' for? Well, he whopped me on the back and he says, "Buddy, have a drink!" I says, "Well, I believe I will have another big orange. I got it and set back down."

"When I got there again I seen that the men had got in two little bitty bunches down there real close together, and they voted. They elected one man apiece, and them two men come out in the middle of that cow pasture and shook hands like they hadn't seen one another in a long time. Then a convict came over to where they was a-standin', and he took out a quarter and they commenced to odd man right there! After a while I seen what it was they was odd-manning for. It was that both bunchesfull of them wanted this funny lookin little pumpkin to play with. And I know, friends, that they couldn't eat it because they kicked it the whole evenin' and it never busted."

"Both bunchesful wanted that thing. One bunch got it and it made the other bunch just as mad as they could be! Friends, I seen that evenin' the awfulest fight that I ever have seen in all my life !! They would run at one -another and kick one- another and throw one another down and stomp on one another and griiind their feet in one another and I don't know what- all and just as fast as one of 'em would get hurt, they'd take him off and run another one on !! ..."

No fights, but the continual blowing grit in everything kept enough abrasive in my mouth to treat my tooth enamel as badly as it did the paint on my car.

I am from the land of green grass and big oak trees, south of Houston. I was just never comfortable with the climate. When the humidity drops below 70% I get panicky.
The people are friendly, but then they are in most of Texas.

The horns are actually the sign of the cuckold (which is why they're called "devil's horns"--not because they're associated with Mr. Lucifer himself. Can't help it if some clueless satanic teens appropriate what they don't understand)... we're just lettin' y'all know that your girlfriends are headin' over to the orange side.

I don't image that Aggie Yell will help them much when the Aggies play the Longhorns this November. Hopefully, this year University of Texas Co-eds can celebrate a Longhorn victory without fear that Aggies will not beat them up on national TV as occure3d after the 1995 Game at Kyle Field.

First of all, there won't be a sip victory. Second of all, you left out the most important facts: the sips were on the field -- i.e. breaking the law, trespassing, etc., and were told to get off. Third, I can guarantee that if YOU go on the field, you will get beaten up -- rather badly, either by me or by others willing to protect our turf. If you don't enjoy pain, don't go on our field.

And get your facts straight while you are at it.

Ha, just saw your post about the difference in the climate in Lubbock and Houston. I have lived north of Houston for over 20 years now and you are so right about the sandstorms, dry air, and lets not leave out the stockyard smell wafting through the air! One morning on the way to class during a dust storm where the sky is reddish orange and portends of hell, I had a tumbleweed blow in front of me. Until then I had thought that they were props for old westerns. I also lost an engine during a standstorm between Lubbock and New Mexico. I definitely agree about people all over TX being friendly. Of course I am a 5th generation Texan and don't have a prejudiced bone in my body...
