I prefer this song...for when we LEAVE again...for GOOD!
We are a band of brothers, and native to the soil,
Fighting for our Liberty with treasure, blood and toil;
And when our rights were threaten'd, the cry rose
near and far,
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag, that bears a
Single Star!
Chorus:
Hurrah! Hurrah! for Southern Rights, Hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a
Single Star!
First, gallant South Carolina nobly made the stand;
Then came Alabama who took her by the hand;
Next, quickly Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida,
All rais'd on high the Bonnie Blue Flag, That bears a
Single Star! (Chorus)
Ye men of valor, gather round the Banner of the Right,
Texas and Louisiana, join us in the fight;
Davis, our loved President, and Stephens, Statesman
rare,
Now rally round the Bonnie Blue Flag, That bears a
Single Star! (Chorus)
And here's to brave Virginia! The Old Dominion State,
With the young Confederacy at length has link'd her
fate
Impell'd by her example, now other States prepare
To hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag,That bears a
Single Star! (Chorus)

"Fighting for our Liberty with treasure, blood and toil"
And, at the same time, "Fighting to take away another's Liberty with treasure, blood, and toil."
Did the slaves not have the same right?
To: republicanwizard
or perhaps this one.....
O, I'm a good old Rebel,
Now that's just what I am,
For this "Fair Land of Freedom"
I do not care damn;
I'm glad I fit against it --
I only wish we'd won,
And I don't want no pardon
For anything I done.
I hates the Constitution,
This Great Republic too,
I hates the Freedman's Bureau;
In uniforms of blue;
I hates the nasty eagle,
With all his brags and fuss,
The lyin', thievin' Yankees,
I hates 'em wuss and wuss.
I hates the Yankee nation
And everything they do,
I hates the Declaration
Of Independence too;
I hates the glorious Union --
'Tis dripping with our blood --
I hates their striped banner,
I fit it all I could.
I followed old mass' Robert
For four year, near about,
Got wounded in three places
And starved at Pint Lookout;
I cotch the rheumatism
A campin' in the snow,
But I killed a chance of Yankees,
I'd like to kill some mo'.
Three hundred thousand Yankees
Is stiff in Southern dust;
We got three hundred thousand
Before they conquered us;
They died of Southern fever
And Southern steel and shot,
I wish they was three million
Instead of what we got.
I can't take up my musket
And fight 'em now no more,
But I ain't going to love 'em,
Now that is sarten sure;
And I don't want no pardon
For what I was and am,
I won't be reconstructed
And I don't care a damn.

NO...under the laws of the time they were considered "property"....read the "Dred Scott Decision".
And Ole Abe could have cared less for them anyway. Read his 1st Inaugaral Address.....

That pretty much summarizes you. A racist, unpatriotic, recreant, an embarrassment for an American, a desperate traitor.

You cannot show me any quote from the First Inaugural in which slaves are treated as mere property.

First of all you ignorant S*O*B....you have no idea of what you are saying:
1. I am a veteran of the United States Navy, and PROUD of it. Hence no "traitor".
2. I support our troops in Iraq, therefore I am not unpatriotic.
3. My family as well as myself have always answered the call, but the country that I love is becoming something that is contrary to the US Constitution, and the wishes of the founding fathers. Hence, if it cannot be fixed, then it is the constitutional right to secede that is left.
Also: Abraham Lincoln was a dictator, a baboon, and a moron, and the only thing I regret is that he wasn't shot in time to save our constitutional government.
If you had an IQ higher than 10, which I doubt, or if you knew your history, which you DONT....then you would realize that ALL the abuses of power, executive orders, and violations of our Constitution which have been committed, STARTED with ABE!
I suggest you keep your mouth shut, so that you don't let on how ignorant you are!
And before you and the rest of your Neo-Yank crowd start calling me racist, I think slavery was evil, and that the end of it was the only good thing in that war.
To: republicanwizard
Lincoln said he had no intention of interfering with slavery where it already existed. The Supreme Court decided that blacks were considered property.
I don't agree with that decision, I am simply saying that by the laws of the day, they were considered such.
To: azhenfud
That was one of the more asinine things I've seen lately.

"What teenage kids are you talking about."
Teenagers were the only Southern forces left to oppose Sherman. Wheeler's cavalry were the only adults, the rest were under-aged reserves of perhaps 14,000 troops - no match for the 62,000 Union troops. There was absolutely no reason for Sherman to slaughter these people and burn their land and crops and animals - pure cruelty.
In addition Sherman got General Grant to expel all Jews from his army. And Lincoln praised him.
He also was involved in the slaughter of Indians. Sherman was a railroad investor and he lobbied his brother, Senator John Sherman, to allocate federal funds for the transcontinental railroad. "We are not going to let a few thieving, ragged Indians stop and check the progress of the railroad," he wrote to General Grant in 1867.
I find it amazing the number of people who have been dumbed down so much that they can perpetuate the myth that Lincoln was a good man. Read your history.

Did you shed a tear for the teenage Hitler Youth in the German Army killed by the U. S. Army during World War II?

What always amazes me about this debate is that, as much as I dislike Lincoln, and what he did to the Law of the Land, both of these candidates were saying real things, and they were having a depp argument, and huge crowds of Americans stood and actually listened intently. That's how much we have changed today, culturally. It's sad. The issues in these very debates have a great deal with why we have become the pathetic culture we have become, too.

So your're saying that Southerners were like Hitler? What total crap. I think they had a valid point that they joined the United States voluntarily and could leave any time they wanted. Why couldn't Lincoln left well enough alone - they would have rejoined later on their own. If anyone should be compared to Hitler it's Sherman who delighted in seeing other people suffer and die. Screw you.

These Neo-Yankees aren't fit to wipe our backside....we shouldn't be falling for their old tricks to draw us in...
(and I include myself in that!)
Just remember, a label of "traitor" or anything else they throw at us is a badge of honor, because they know we threaten the "empire" they represent. We want to see this country go back to following the Constitution, and it scares them to death!
Deo Vindice!
To: Non-Sequitur
Since it concerns OUR country, not yours, I wouldn't worry about it. We don't.

TexasConfederate1861:
If Mexicans one day become a majority in Texas and the Texas legislature votes to secede from the United States, would you shoot policemen and U. S. soldiers who try to prevent it?

That question is loaded, and YOU know it.
But yes, if the Legislature seceded I would have to say that is within their rights to do so.
Wether I would fight, well, that would depend on the exact circumstances.
