Sambo was an Indian from India. He ran around so fast the tiger chasing him was turned in to butter.

There used to be a Dennys-like restaurant clled Sambos, named after the fictional character. They changed their name to something else a few decades ago.

SAmbo's became "No Place Like Sam's" (which is about the dumbest name imaginable), then thier upper management's mistakes caught up with them and they went belly up.

they were nice places, too. good food. 24 hours...

How interesting. A black health administrator, while talking to a Jewish materials manager yesterday, suggested that she try to "Jew" down the price of equipment. But I don't suppose the corpoation would think a thing about this comment.

I didnt know sambo was a racial slur. I still dont even know what it means. But that i know about it, who knows? Now i might be tempted to use it. Thanks to some stupid reaction, a racial slur will survive to scourge another generation.

If a student did that, he would probably find his butt in juvenile court on some kind of trumped up hate charge. Oh, well, it apparently was just a slip of the tongue on the part of the "teacher."

We had breakfast there a couple of months ago. I was stunned, then delighted, that any Sambos still existed. We travel to Santa Barbara a couple times a year, and I will make it a point to eat there.
