IT's the RIverfront TImes which is less objective than the Post-Dispatch and not in a good way. The whole purpose here is for them to divide and conquer.

Who in their right mind takes the RFT seriously? And remember, I said right mind.
To: Desdemona
How's the morale among the priests in St. Louis? Has Burke been a unifier?

Did Burke take the profession of vows of a transgendered nun? What do you think of that?

More important than being a "unifier" is that he is on God's side.
If a bishop comes into a diocese where half the priests are homosexual heretics, he had better bring the sword, not the bunny slippers.

I think I want to hear more of the story. Vows of chastity, poverty, etc are open to any lay person. He may have made himself a eunuch, but he can still repent of his perversion and chastity is the only option now.
I won't deny it sounds bad, but I also doubt it is being portrayed honestly given the agenda of the publication.

I won't deny it sounds bad, but I also doubt it is being portrayed honestly given the agenda of the publication. Ms. Helmueller wrote a letter to the Papal Nuncio. Does this Catholic laywoman have an agenda?
This weirdness is on top of the building of a $25 million shrine in a small Wisconsin diocese.

I in no way condone what has been done (it is beyond words), but assuming this man was repentant of his horrible crime, where is a repentant man with a female anatomy to go? I find it inconceivable that anyone's answer to that would be an active women's religious order. Actually, with the exception of capital punishment I can't think of an acceptable solution.

The article has at least TWO facts dead wrong. Svea was NOT the superior of the ICK in Wisconsin, and was NOT a Monsignor.
But he was convicted and is in the slammer.

Uhnnnn, Sinky, I recall you defending to the HILT the Bishop of Rochester (?)--something about a priest who committed suicide after a little go-round with the Bish...
Are you morally certain that this nun IS what's claimed in an article which is flawed in other regards?
Good heavens! Burke consolidated a couple of parishes in a town with a diminishing population!!!
And, my o my, a Father left in disgust. Are you aware of all the circumstances on that one? I am. And there's a very good reason why this screed doesn't mention it.

The guy's a shyster, and has been proven to be a shyster.

Concerned Catholics ping! I trust Desdemona's judgement in this manner, in that the source publication of this article is less than trustworthy. I find it both odd and interesting that corpus and sinkspur seem to be on the same side, attacking Bishop Burke's character when his public actions have been quite laudable.

Thanks for clarifying this for me, ninenot. I had never heard of this guy before, and I found out about the Institute last year.
