I am not a KJV bigot. I think the NASB, NKJV, and ESV are all credible Bibles. The NIV is OK, but as paraphrase, it’s not adequate for studying the Word of God. KJV is my preference, but I don’t demand others use it.

Not all modern music is poor doctrine. I love much of it, but hate much of it as well - so much has very bad doctrine. “Jesus, lover of my soul - Jesus, I will never let you go”, for example - that line is rubbish. He is indeed the lover of the souls of His chosen ones, but He is the One who will never let us go. It’s pompous for a man to declare that he will never let go of God. This is symptomatic of what has been termed “the adulation of man”.

I hardly think that declaring in faith that we will never let God go is blasphemy. Nor is it rubbish, or pompous.

“Hey, Dr. Boys, if you didn’t like Willow Creek, don’t ever attend a Promise Keepers event!”

I’m not real big on the Purpose Driven drivel, but I enjoyed the heck out of PK and will again in the future.

Right on! See the link I posted above. Beware the emerging church and contemplative spirituality!

Rebuking false doctrine with the word “(excrement)” offends you?

Yes it does, but don't be concerned about offending me. You should be concerned that it offends God.

The Lord said

While I expected you to justify your crudeness rather that retract what you said, I never imagined that you would try to justify it by using our Lord's own words. Jesus did use rough language at times, but he never used coarse or vulgar language. He was without sin and I think using His words to justify your vulgarity boarders on blasphemy.

I would be hesitant to compare myself and my words to that of Christ's, I seriously doubt it would have a favorable outcome.

I agree that the “c” word I used is not gentle nor gentile.

Then why do you not recognize that it should never be used in a religious forum or where women and minors are likely to read it? Forget that it is prohibited in this forum, common decency should be reason enough.

Colossians 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

This is a stretch, I realize that, but just maybe the church should act like the church and conduct a worship service on Sunday?

***Hey, Dr. Boys, if you didn’t like Willow Creek, don’t ever attend a Promise Keepers event!***

Yeah, the last PK in my town featured a man that wasn’t even Trinitarian. Too bad that PK didn’t seem to think that non-Christians in their leadership wasn’t bad.

I live very near the WCC, oh yeah, it is casual, more like going to a sporting event than to church, which I suppose the younger generation likes well enough. However, I looked for a more spiritual church, something with meat, a church of the scripture and not a church of 'the rock n rollers'.

Any church that brings in a Muslim Imam to try to pull the wool over my eyes is less than ethical. Funny how there is a Madrasa in South Barrington also.. I think that all in all the writer was pretty attuned to what he saw there, I have also been at the WCC, but only once.

A BIG+++++++A M E N !

I go to an independent Baptist Church In Barrington and we dress with respect to God and to others around us, not fancy but decent. Our church is small and welcoming. We sing traditional hymns as well as more contemporary music. But one thing is for sure, WE PRAISE THE LORD ALMIGHTY and nothing else will do.

Ohh, that’s OK, just as long as you wear your Garlic necklace and bathe in vinegar.

What in the world has you so down on King David, if nothing else he was chosen by GOD to be Israel’s KING and that should be good enough for you.. the whole world is not built around the New Testament it took the old Testament to bring about the New.. And I think King David did the stripping of clothing to show that he had nothing to hide from God, but it was in privacy that he did it. A very humble thing to do. My church also says amen and also raises hands and we sing and we praise, but it is not about us, it is about the LORD. We also go to church dressed decently to show our respect, not everyone has money to buy Gucci but most have enough to dress decently, and that shows respect. Would you respect someone who comes for dinner at your house and arrives in a bikini? or perhaps a dirty t-shirt that they wore cutting the grass yesterday. Well if you think that that’s ok, then it shows that they have no respect for you or your home and vis versa. IMHO short shorts and skirts do not have a place in church and I thank GOD no one, not even the young’uns dress that way in our church.

LOL!

Kramer: I’ve got the Kavorka Jerry.

Jerry: The Kavorka? What’s that?

Kramer: The lure of the animal. I’m dangerous.

Jerry: What is this thing around your neck?

Kramer: The priests they’re helping me. I just bathed in vinegar.

Jerry: You know you’re funkifying the whole building.

Kramer: Keep away Jerry! Keep away!

Ahh, didn’t you see the smiley face?
I did not even mention dress. If your churches chooses to have a dress code fine, the church I attend does not.
Didn’t I say it is about God (worship)?
I also do not think God cares a wit about your outside appearance but cares about the condition of your heart.
But, alas we look on the outside and God looks on the inside, so if ever I visited your church I would dress so as to not cause you to judge.

yes you did!

We would not judge you that is GOD'S job.. but we also like to think that we respect GOD enough to show up with not only the best in our hearts but even the way we appear in His House of Worship.

Yeah, don't get me wrong: I'm not a fan of the "Willow Creek" style, even though we attend a clone of WC. It is superb as an evangelizing organization, meaning they do get people saved like few other 20th century movements. The problem is, the very openness that gets people introduced to Jesus leaves no room for doctrine and allows Bill Clinton or Abdul Rahman to take the stage without criticism.

I just want it clear that his comments on the music indicated to me he was more interested in picking the church apart than with discovering what they do, and do well.

Know ye not that ye were made to praise the Lord? Need to talk to King David about that one, perhaps.

The sad thing is how many of these people believe they were worshipping Christ without having a clue what is taught in the New Testament.

It is almost as though we have reached the point that some people think anything done “in Jesus’ name” is Christianity, and thus pleasing to God, regardless of whether it bears any resemblance to Scripture.

Yes, we are created and given new birth with a God given desire to praise Him. We are not to numb our minds with mantras, vain repetitions, or man-pleasing methods. I am not speaking against all modern music - said it more than once. I hate lyrics (not referring specifically to any mentioned in this thread) that do not square with Scripture.

Willow Creek, Saddle Back, Lakewood, Crystal Cathedral - and more - are cancers within the world.
