"Purgatory...a place where only the saved go. The anti room to heaven where the bride is prepared for the wedding. Now I am Lutheran and thus not an expert on this Catholic doctrine. Catholics can you help out here?"

This is correct according to Catholic doctrine also.

Everyone undergoing purgation (purification) is in a state of grace--- destined for heaven. And they know it. Therefore Purgatory is a state of hope.

As a RCIA --- adult converts' ed --- teacher in my parish, I always minimize using the word "place" in relation to Purgatory, simply because it implies that it's "geographical." ("Gee, do you suppose it's a couple miles down there, under the crustal plates?")

Purgatory is simply a state required for most good people, to become detached from their sins and cleansed of the temporal "stains" of sin. I like the idea of the Bride getting her gown bleached, de-spotted and ironed --- of course that's a Biblical image.

It's as if you've been invited to the wedding feast and you were just in the midst of mucking out the hogs' pen. You'd BEG for the opportunity to get thoroughly washed before going in to the feast.

We ask Jesus to take them to heaven with him. What’s wrong with that?

What's wrong with your thinking is that Jesus/the Bible teaches us that it is incumbent on us to accept Him as our Salvation and we have to have Faith in Him in order to get to Heaven. No one else can do anything to get you to Heaven. Others praying for us after we die do nothing if we have not accepted Jesus ourselves.

Christians have gone to be with The Lord. They are beyond our means of communication, nor are we supposed to even try.

Well, first off, the article seemed to indicate that the priest WAS communicating with the dead, and that is my objection.

As far as the prayer for someone to be taken to heaven, I have no moral objection to that, it's just that either they are already there, or they never will be. Of course, if there is a purgatory that people can be prayed out of, I am mistaken. I just can find no Biblical justifcation for this belief.

To answer your question, though, of course I've had grandparents die. And, no, once they were dead, I knew my prayers would have no efect on their eternal fate, which I believe to be a good one.

Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

I have a little book that has prayers for everyday of the week.

What about prayers for every day of the week?

Thank you for bringing Biblical truths to this thread, and refuting erroneous statements by Catholic posters.

There are great battles in the heavens between the Angels of God, the 2/3 that follow God, and the angels of satan, the one third that follow the “god” of this world, satan.

The few that slip through to deceive the people of earth, which are known as demons as you of course are aware, do a lot of damage.

Anyone that has had a ministry to those that use drugs, especially meth, will find themselves attacked continually by these satanic entities.

I find it amazing that Catholics believe it is their prayers that get purgatoryites (mythical creatures btw and I made up that word, just as Catholic doctrine made up purgatory) to heaven.

It is sad to see Christians of the belief system of Catholicism wasting prayer time on things that are COMEPLETELY in control of God through Jesus.

It reminds me of the media still stuck on the Trayvon matter which distracts from Benghazi and the many wrongs of the administration now in “charge” in this country.

Satan loves distractions from the simple messages of Jesus, and loves to keep people busy on unnecessary traditions instead of putting their whole and complete focus on Jesus and those lost souls that we have been commissioned to reach out to in order to bring the Truth of Christianity to those that are destined to perish if not directed towards a relationship with Jesus for salvation and the promise of eternal life with Him.

As I mentioned above I appreciate your posts, but many of them are falling on deaf ears.

The ones that no one replies to show how there is no supporting those actions/traditions that are not substantiated by the Word of God, Jesus is the word.

Keep up the good work, and watch for those that bypass the Religion Forum rule of pinging any poster they comment directly upon. Not that it is any big deal, those comments are usually just feeble attempts to silence the Truth and high five each other for adhering strictly to the false doctrines of Catholicism.

The souls in Purgatory cannot pray for themselves. They depend on you.

If there were a purgatory, those there should depend on Jesus, not humans.

Having not seen purgatory in the Bible, I'm glad to hear more about it, ie the fact that they cannot pray anymore. Wow.

Thanks for the ping. I certainly agree with your posts # 32 and 34. This good priest is working for Jesus. He is praying for lost souls and telling lost souls to pray to Jesus.

I sense that those whom we love and have gone ahead of us, that is, on the journey home to God still are with us, even in the next life.
