After a while I felt as though I was living in enemy territory, a spy behind enemy lines. Some time after that it began to feel as though I lived in a parallel universe where I could see and hear everything but was completely unable to communicate with anyone, like being forced to watch atrocities but being totally unable to act against them. Story of my life.

I only have to imagine what my grandfather would have said and done when the doctor threatened him. That doctor would have moved his family to the other side of the country a week later. Why are some people so hesitant to counter a threat with another threat?

You’d be surprised how effective a bad doctor review on Yelp, Google, Health Grades, VocDoc can be. I’ve seen doctors scramble to retrieve their reputations after a bad review. It’s a small thing but a first amendment right I appreciate.

I do believe those reviews have their place, and agree they are effective. However, this particular ‘Doctor’ threatened the parents - unless he and his family live in an underground bunker guarded by private security, he should know how it feels to receive a threat. Going to an attorney was a waste of time.

Started very long time ago. In the early Seventies I was involved in a case where a newborn had severe opening down his spine. Spina Bifida. The neurosurgeon talked parents into withholding food and water. The hospital refused to allow it, but our local hospital accepted baby and the plan to withhold.
Some of us called the authorities, and got a court order to feed and hydrate, but by time got it the baby died.
Neurosurgeon was sanctioned. Hate mail flooded in accusing us of being busy bodies. Twenty years later neurosurgeon bragged that he had just been ahead of his time and had become commonplace. The powerful never stop unless we fight.
