Follow that up with an intelligent discussion of dubia, OK?

“So that’s why my advice to you is, as always: in matters Catholic, ASK us, do not TELL us, what we can and cannot do.”

The problem with your request is that while Romans may know what you believe as a Roman, no roman has demonstrated:

1. Knowledge of the Scriptures sufficient to evaluate the implications of that truth claim,
2. nor a foundation of systematic theology to see what the result is when you stake out that position
3. Nor an objective seeking after truth, rather than justification of Rome’s teaching.

All of these are crucial.

And each person here pursues the conversation as they believe Best.

Asking only reveals *your view/understanding* of Roman teaching, and not what may be true or important.

Best

Big problem with petitions: those who write them think they are saying something powerful and important, when actually they sound like petulant and ignorant whiners. Add the inevitable demands (which the signers usually have no right to make) and it does get obnoxious. Petitions are ordinary people writing to extraordinary people and making fools of themselves. No matter your momentary thrill of self-importance, you achieve nothing by signing an internet form most use to vent spleen, nothing more.

I have to agree.

A more effective way of dealing with it is a letter writing campaign with some general guidelines of what to say, or NOT say, and who to address it to.

If they get buried under actual, physical mail, they might take notice.

I would also add that asking Catholics about their beliefs or relating how one reads and understands the written documents that state those beliefs shouldn't be out-of-bounds for a non-Catholic to bring up on a Religion Forum thread. This is especially true when you think about the claims Catholicism has made of being in authority over all Christians.

Thank you, boatbums. I strongly agree. More asking: that's what I constantly ask.

There's a petition for men to sign, too, btw.

My feeling is that these efforts are a good starting point. It allows people to get their names on the record, at least, and show that they are willing to take some minimal action.

That said, such petitions are just a starting point. If all you're willing to do to combat this filth is put your name on a petition, that's not really helpful.

What needs to happen is the foundation of a brand new Roman Catholic Faithful-style group, but on steroids and with millions of dollars at its disposal.
