And there is no way that WaPo did $250 million in damages to Mr. Sandmann. I disagree with you. First: Death Threats. Second, for the rest of this young man's life, snowflakes will harass him. He will struggle with employment because the snowflakes will harass his employers. Every aspect of the rest of his life has been damaged irreparably.

Yep. Know his story well.
To: jeffersondem
mark my words, the paper will argue the following:
because we mentioned in a news article or online post, he then became a public figure and the Sullivan ruling should apply.
the judge will rule in the papers favor.
end of story.

Damages are also punitive, a reasonable way punish corporate entities whosebehavior is reckless and irresponsible.

Maybe so, but he’s going to re-evaluate the management when one of his companies just cost him $250M (or whatever they end up settling for).

“the judge will rule in the papers favor.”
The judges have the option of voting to pass a new Sullivan law. And to make it ex post facto. And no one will say bug spit.
However, according to past court rulings, the kid was not a public figure.

nick’s lawyers have several more dozen of these $250,000,000 lawsuits in the pipeline ...

Not so fast.
The damages to Mr. Sandmann could very well be closer to $250 billion. Think very carefully.
You’re sixteen You get death threats from strangers. Half the country turns against you, although it seems like the whole country turning against you because the entire media piles on.
You feel like your life is over.

Bump damages up x40. Bezos’ paper money/credit can cover that. Not only did his rag go after these kids individually, but also the RC school they attended. Libeled and slandered (If one of his Wash. Post minions went on tv/radio) every Roman Catholic school kid across the world. Bury the whore-monger and break-up Amazon.
Benzos does not have personnel business knowledge, the guy just had first mover advantage and political connections.

If someone asked you at the age of fifteen how much your life was worth, would you give a dollar number less than 250 billion?

It’s even less than 2% of $50 Billion. I think that $250 million is only 1/2 of 1 %. Bezos wouldn’t even notice it. Whatever it is, I hope that Lin wins and the settlement comes with a detailed apology.

As per the filing, $50 million damages, $200 million punitive to deter the WP from doing it again. Sounds reasonable to me.
To: reasonisfaith
Are you kidding me? My 11 year old knows how much Benzos and a lot of corporations are worth studying stocks in 5th grade. Youtube and all that crap gets them in the know as well.
They can comprehend billions and trillions.
