I don’t think this is much of a mystery. The world was perfect before Adam and Eve tainted it with sin. There were very little (if any) viruses and bacteria that would have caused disease and illness. Long life would have been natural before the flood (provided you weren’t killed by someone).
After the flood all this changed. A clue is found in scripture when Noah vacated the ark. In Genesis 9 it states that Noah became drunk due to grapes fermenting (breaking the wine down by bacteria). Noah, being a godly man, would not have considered getting drunk on his own which is spoken against in other passages. He didn’t realized the change in life the flood had brought about.
Natural life was shorted by the introduction of viruses and bacteria.
Sounds like the “office politics” of antiquity wasn’t any more fun than today’s.

The only point I’d discuss is the idea that angels can mate with humans....
Seems that God made everything that was made on earth to reproduce after “its kind”. I do not think scripture supports the idea that angels can reproduce with humans... From Missouri, so you gotta show me more than a concept without any historical, scriptural or biological supporting background fact.
How do you get that 120 years remained before the flood would come? I certainly do not see that logic as being obvious, as written.
Regarding the remainder of your comments- I am not in disagreement with anything that is clearly written in scripture.
Angels are spirits — they do not have bodies and so cannot mate with humans.
Now besides that, everywhere else in Scripture "Sons of God" are angels. Job is the most obvious. After we die to the flesh and are born again as a new creature, we are given the right to become Sons of God.
I assume you believe the Sons of God in Gen 6 are sons of Seth because I have only heard of that alternative theory before. No where in Scripture does it give any indication of that. This theory came from the RCC after about 400-500 AD. They seem to have a problem with angels having sex with women so some guy made up the theory. Jewish Rabbi's OTOH, have always believed it was fallen angels that went into earth women.
If a man had sex with a woman, how would it produce a whole race of monsters? Sons of God are made by God Himself. That means we have Adam, Jesus, angels, and us when we are born of The Holy Spirit. Seth was just a man. In fact Genesis 4:26 says the son of Seth was at the time men began to profane the name of God. If your Translation says it was the time men began to "call" upon the name of God, that's mistranslated. Look up the Strongs on "began" (H2490) there. it means "defiled or profaned" everywhere else in Scripture. Seth was the substitute for Abel's line so Cain wouldn't be the seed line to Jesus.

Jud 1:7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

There is no "or even whether the patriarchs lived to such advanced ages." Scripture is speaking literally here whether Mr. Pope believes it or not. And yet for decades the (required) notes in your official Bible for America has told readers

They do have bodies and relate to humans all the time. They kill people save people, and interact with people throughout the Scriptures. I believe I have seen one as a skinny black homeless woman before. What were the sodomites going to do with the angels if they could have caught them? They had bodies that everyone could see. But they didn't know who they were because the sodomites were dead spiritually. One angel killed 185,000 in one night. Does a spirit interact with flesh enough for them to die? There is zero evidence that the Sons of God were anything else than angels. There is zero evidence that the sons of Seth were the said Sons of God.

The slow decay of our environment is not because of God nor are we being afflicted by God. Rather it is a result of us and our foolish behavior. God might rescues us from time to time from our condition, but as a general rule we have created this toxic environment. We might solve one thing but others keep cropping up. We think we have a cure for cancer and then we have AIDS. We think we have a cure for something else and then flesh eating bacteria is discovered.
Our salvation rest upon His promise that someday He will fix this situation if we place our trust in Him.
